Recommend a bag

Hi the equipments I have are 5100 kit, 35mm, Lumix lx7 and sirui T1204 tripod. The current bags I have are crumpler 6md bag, kata grip 14.

I will be going to Cambodia soon and I'm looking for a shoulder backpack for the above equipmenys. Any recommendation? Thanks

A good way is to go to those big shop like Harvey Norman, challenger, courts and see and try out the bags on display. We all come in different height and sizes, so we should pick a bag that is suitable for our own built.

Your equipment seems to e awfully light for a backpack.

Setup 1
1. Neck-sling your Nikon D5100 with the 35mm mounted
2. Keep the Panasonic LX-7 handy in a waist pouch or small bag
3. Shoulder-sling your tripod

Setup 2
Shove everything into the 6 Million Dollar Home. I carry more in my 5 Million Dollar Home and it is still light and handy.

Something like a Lowepro Fastpack 250AW, Think Tank Street Walker will work well. TS really, your gear is minimal, and will fit almost all backpacks. What you need to do is to read more reviews and see more youtube reviews and see what features you prefer in a backpack. one site you can start look is Reviews - Cambags.com Camera Bag Resource.

Thanks for all the advices.. Yup my gears are quitelight.. Just that I have headache on how to securing the tripod onto the bag if possible.. Don't want to carry separate bag for tripod..

Shops for camping and outdoor activities have a lot of solutions to attach things to bags, be it using hooks or straps or whatnot. There is one opposite Golden Mile (under HDB block).

Use a shoulder bag like a 5 Million to carry both the 5100 and LX7. Sling the Sirui. You will be faster changing from camera to camera.

These isn't a satisfactory way to attach a tripod to a backpack without it feeling lob sided after several hours on the move.

I stand for the Lowepro Fastpack 250AW, it is a really spacious backpack with a huge upper portion to keep like caps/jackets etc. And one very important reason I chose it over the Think tank Streetwalker was because you can sling it over as there is a quick access pouch at the side which is extremely handy. But most importantly, the backpack must be comfortable and to your preference.

- wrap tripod in a cloth or even plastic bag and put in main compartment
- put camera in insert (custom made eg Camera carrier insert tutorial | How Joyful or something like Crumpler Haven) or small neoprene pouch (google 'neoprene camera pouch' for picture examples)... your Kata Grip 14 may even fit in! Put in main compartment too
- Lumix LX-7 can probably fit in front compartment

Should have some space leftover for water bottle, small umbrella, extra batteries/memory cards
If Kata Grip can fit in then don't need anything new

That's what I'll do when I'm bringing similar equipment

I'm thinking about using a normal deuter speedlite 20 backpack.. If put the tripod in the main compartment, the top will stick out abit after the Zipper? Unless the bag height is high enough..

if your crumpler 6md or other bag can hold all your gear, then the tripod can innovate and tied or fasten to any loop or handle outside the bag. I had a 7MD. It had some 2 loop at the side. I can put 1 leg of the tripod into the bigger loop and then use a strap and quick release clip that I got from a old bag and fasten the 3 leg together. If not can tied to the handle on the top of the bag Ok, that is provided the tripod is small-med sized and light weight.

I checked the specifications it says external height is 48cm... theoretically T1204X folded length 40cm should fit... maybe because it's a bit too bulky
oops hehe... looks like you have to get a new bag if you really don't want to carry your tripod separately

If you got the time, go down to the shops and try them out. You will then see which is more comfortable and to your liking too.
