reagrding dry box and silica gel

time and effort i only spent 1-2 minutes replacing the silica gel every 2 weeks(i dun think that is a lot of time)

consistency is not there as in keeping the humidity level, how u know 1-2 weeks is a good time to replace (it can be too dry also)? Due to weather temperature changes, humidity level goes up and down also.

try do this for 6 mths, u sure get sick of it. 6 x 2, 12 times in 6 months u need to change. in btw u sure miss a few cycles.

My dad told me he used to have a glass jar, where he could fit in his Nikon SLR and a Vivitar 1 series 28-105 lens. He poured 1-2 small bottles of blue gel, and when the gel turned pink he'll fry it :bigeyes:. But he usually plays/uses the camera every 2-3 days, and the camera lasted very long... Now I just use a big tupperware box and wrap 1 bottle of gel in mesh (the kind where those supermarket put garlic in and sell as a pack )... Don't really need to regulate if you're bringing it out to play often. I bought the gel last year, and fried the gel once, and it still lasted up till now . Didn't spend much money... Only side effect is that your camera will temporarily smell like gel for a while, it will fade soon after . If you know you're going to let your equipment rest in its holy throne for a long time, I will suggest getting a dry cabi instead.

hi guys, i'm thinking of buying some silica gel, and put it into a small ziplock bag, then dump into my camera bag... do u think it work? if i put inside a ziplock bag? or shall i buy the 'net' kinda bag to put silica gel?

this is even worst. u can afford a cam but can't afford a dry cabinet, why buy in the first place? i rather u use a dry box!

Some selica gels are carcinogenic, try not to use the same frying pan for food if you really need to fry it...

twenty years ago, there is no mini dry cabinet, all are large size and super expensive, and average camera only a few hundreds dollars. we use biscuit tin, ammo box to store our cameras if we can't afford a dry cabinet.

nowadays, dry cabinet is so popular and cheap, camera are so much more expensive, don't understand why people still do things in the reserve way.

and those photographers who have lots of gears, will do it the army style, get a large office metal cabinet, install a 15w light bulb inside, switch in on 24/7, that is how army keep their binoculars, gun sight, mortal sight, optical equipments fungus free.

there is noting wrong to save money, but saving it at the wrong area, is indeed laughable.

once your camera and lenses have fungus, it will wipe out all your saving on penny and efforts.

Nowadays dry cabinet are very affordable and everybody should get it. Two or more even better.

you see, last time we are paying a dry cabinet at the price of a new film SLR camera body, nowadays we only need to pay around 10% of a new entry level DSLR for a mini dry cabinet.

that is why I don't understand why people need to be so petty about getting a dry cabinet.

I bought this dry cabi from Cathy few weeks ago. Small one, about >30L. Comes with 5 years warranty.

First time using this type of stuff, so the guy told me to leave it empty and switch to "L" for a while before puting anything in.

Humidity lvl went down from 70 to ard 50

After which I put my camera in, and it has been weeks but the himidity lvl just didn't go below 50. It fluctuate between 50~55 depends on weather.

I read from the menu that optimum setting for camera eq is ard 45.

Am I doing it wrong? :think: I tried calling up cathay and they say i can bring down the dehumidify motor to check as it's still under warranty. but the warranty doen't cover the cabinet defects itself as I suspect there's a leak. but i am not sure.

Does anyone has this problem? or is it normal? the cabinet is in my room, non-aircon and there's more than 5cm space behind for ventilation.

not sure wat brand u bought, i am using digi-cabi. i set my dial to 1pm. leave my dry cabinet for a few hours (sometimes i may take even longer)

Using AKARUI DIGI, my first thought was also to leave it a few hrs max to reach 35~40

it's been like.. a month? lol.. maybe something is wrong.
