I had the opportunity to use the RD-1s. Only issue to me is that when I was using it to shoot fireworks, the camera takes quite long to process each shot that I shot in bulb mode.

Overall it's a good camera for day shoots. IMO.

I was in Korea earlier this month and saw several used RD-1s for around/under 2k (SGD). I was tempted I'll admit.

Indeed, that's to my knowledge too. The following is extracted from their website...

In fact a few months ago, I saw a RD1 set at Benphoto with faulty LCD, I contemplated but decided against the trouble... then came the RD1x :)

We specialize in handling repairs for the Epson R-D1 series digital rangefinder cameras. The Epson repair fees are capped at under ¥10.000 (excl. parts) so it will be very inexpensive.

Our Epson R-D1 died suddenly this summer in Barcelona. Getting it repaired in Europe turned out to be near impossible. After finding Japan Exposures suggested as a possible source of help on rangefinderforum, he sent me terms and instructions. The camera went off, Epson Japan took their time, but did an excellent job and now it’s back. The pictures look good, the viewfinder is recalibrated, electronics have been changed, and our R-D1 sounds new. The price was good and it’s also very much quieter. All thanks to Dirk’s excellent service. I can’t imagine how else we could have managed to get it to Epson.

Hi guys, I'll be getting my epson r-d1 in a few days time. Just wondering if you guys happen to know of anyone who can recalibrate the rangefinder at a cheaper cost other than Camera Hospital? greatly appreciated :)

try asking David over at P&G, basement 1 @ Adelphi. i like his turnaround time for service, plus he is quite upfront with customers about the costs.

Thanks nightwolf! :) reason being I'll be leaving Singapore shortly after getting the camera and I'll need to have it calibrated in the shortest time possible.

so its not abt skills?
i remember someppl use to quote
al cheapo camera + good skills = good photograph?

kekekek

I think photography is all about skills.

Of course, one would need proper tools but you dont need the best.

Same goes, you have a miele stove baptised by gordon ramsay, doesnt mean you whip up a 5 star meal.
