I currently shoot only with a RF
but am considering if i should get a 2nd camera, for anything else an RF is not suitable for

Anyone one here owns a 2nd setup?
DSLR,Mirrorless?

My Ricoh GXR M mount module is my backup when it comes to shots that I would really want to keep.

Got a compact film camera for wide angles. And recently picked up a GXR. Nice complement for film bodies especially for social shots.

No need to consider, just get a 2nd camera... and don't stop at 2, perhaps a 3rd and a 4th too! ;)

i think that it really depends on what you intend it for... if it is to be a back-up, a 2nd body, or a 2nd system. from your question, it sounds like you're asking about a 2nd system.

i'm a proponent for using the first tool for the job... so to that end, it really depends on what you like to shoot. i personally have 2-3 systems, and often have a headache of which camera to bring out...

that been said, if you really want to get intimate with RF, i think that you have to "force" yourself to shoot with RF for a while... learn what you like about it, and what you don't like so much. how it works for you in certain situations, and how it can pose some challenges in others... and learn how to really use a RF camera.

along those lines, some of the RFers here carry 2 RF cameras, one 28 other 50, one b&w other slides, one digital other film, etc. others may bring a film RF and a digital compact or mirrorless (with M-mount adaptor), e.g. GRD, GRX, XPro1, OM-D, etc.

I second cactusjack. Really depends on what you want the second body/system to do.
In general, each system has its strong points, those that they are best suited for.
For instance, for street shooting, you can't beat using manual focus lenses on RF bodies using zone focusing. No AF system comes even close..
However, when you are looking for accurate framing, tele shots, then RF is not the ideal equipment.
I use RF systems when shooting street n travel. I also shoot full frame DSLR where accurate framing n composition is required. Then I also shoot film medium format when absolutely best image quality is preferred.

Enjoy your journey.

EP3 to shoot random day to day stuff, easy and fun to use, small enough and decent image quality.

I always have my Konica C35 with me. My Canonet QL-17 is always loaded with B&W film, so if I spot somthing I wanna capture in colour I'll whip out my C35. I only shoot with prime lenses with my Nikon FE, usually 50mm. So if I need to capture something wider I'll use the handy C35 instead of changing lens, because by the time I change lens what I wanted to capture would have been long gone.

I like SLRs, either 35mm or MF. I just can't deal with "mini" cameras (formats). For one thing, I don't like the quality and secondly, I can't read any of the tiny LCDs without glasses.

how about an inexpensive digital m ? say the m8 or the epson r-d1. this way you can still make use of the lens.

this is how i thought about (still changing though):

a. a compact for travelling, eg. olympus xa or minox or even a rollei 35
b. a p&s camera, like the famed yashica t4 or ricoh gr1 or even an expensive contax t3
c. a classic film slr, a lot of nice ones out there which are cheap and neglected, a nikon fm or om1 etc
d. a medium format, 6x6 or 6x645 or even a 6x9, there
are "folders" like the ikonta, or systems with interchangeable parts like hasselblad, mamiya or bronica
or the newer P&S type of medium format eg. Fuji GA645Zi. don't forget the Twin Lens Reflex also
e. specialty type of cameras like panorama cameras, underwater type like nikonos, or half-frames like the Pen-F

if you can afford it, try as many as you can, these cameras are now a fraction of their brand new prices
and frankly noone wants them anymore. But these cameras are so fun....

Got a TLR for me to play with when I'm bored with RF.

ha i did think of a compact
maybe a minox

I got a Ricoh GXR for instant gratification of my pictures or as a digital backup otherwise I'm almost 100% on my RF

I have two RFs, one digital and one film. Otherwise I use an old D70 with 18-300mm, after learning how to use film, my pics seem to look better on the d70. Also not so fussed about low ISO anymore on digital SLR.

Recently been trying medium format on Mamiya 645 too... Great fun to shoot with so many cameras. Buy as many as you can afford esp film cameras :)

Modest words there CJ! Are you really sure or have you already lost count? :bsmilie:

A compact Rolleiflex TLR 2.8 is my usual film setup along with a digital M9 for oversea travelling shoot. :)
