Hello there!

Great to see other rangefinder users here. I use Bessa R2 and Voigtlander lenses (35mm and 75mm), Really love the simplicity of rangefinder photography. Do feel free to take a look at a couple of my photos taken with Bessa R2 and Voigtlander lenses at www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat:500&ppuser=132

Regards,
Peter

Hello Peter,

Your signage logo is so easy for me to identify you're the Peter at "Rangefinderforum.com" :D

Must shoot Wayang this year as last year's post SARS 7th Month was too busy for me to do the photo-shoot. As for the CV lenses, I only own the 35mm and 75mm CV lense. I sold my 50mm/2.5 and 50mm/3.5 last year. Infact I just sold my CV meter last week on RFF to Gene. I am streamlining all my equipment to what I need. I must not become a collector as it is highly addictive and my wife is already rather unhappy with my latest purchase of CV PII.

So you want to get a R instead of R2. IMHO, a bit more money for the R2 is really worth the money in terms of construction and durability. Furthermore, the M mount is much more easier to change lens. I use to own the L, which I sold after using only 6 months. But I love using the R2 as it is such a fun camera to use, not to mention produce good results too! I will probably never buy Leica as it will most likely sit in the dry box as it is too precious to be risked stolen, damaged etc.

Dear Peter, yeah I know the R2 is much better, but it can also get me 2 Rs, and after weighing the pros and cons, I felt I really couldn't justify the additional $400 just to get a nicer feel and a better mount.

hey if you like I could join you for a wayang shoot, would like to improve on my shots from the last time. do you know of any wayangs showing anywhere?

So you are buying the super cheap R that Gandy is putting up for closeout sales? You should buy from him if not from Dr. Yao as they really check your camera and lenses before they ship them. I am in the proces for some wayang shoot, should not be too difficult to find this month. I will inform you when there is one. Do inform me if you come across any? :)

I have a Ricoh 500G along with a lens which I dunno what the model is. My father just handed it down to me. Needs servicing and touch up though. Got some helpful tips at the Others in Eqpt section which I posted for help.

I did drop by Camera Hospital yesterday with my friend. However, I find that the price he is selling the Leica rangefinder is way too expensive!!!
Imagine, a normal Black Chrome Leica M4-P (condition not too good with alot of wear on the top-plate) is going for $2000! I can easily get this camera at around $1300 for that kind of condition.
He have also have Chrome Leica M3 (condition not so good also) going for $1700 which is on the ex side also.
However, if your Leica need a CLA I would suggest not to send it to this kind of shop as they does not have the proper equipment to calibrate your camera. Send direct to Leica Germany.

Ohh..
i mean the repair quotation from camera hospital, never buy any camera from him b4 as his camera collection not much there.
Send to Germany for a CLA roughly cost how much ar ?

Hi there, may I know what kind of equipment is required to calibrate the camera?

I went to the Singapore Leica service centre once to have my lens service and clean-up but I was told by the technician that he need to send it over to Germany as they have the proper equipment to 'centre' the lens elements.
As for the camera body, only the shutter-speed he can check here in Singapore as he have the equipment to check. But for the film-place flatness, only in Germany then they have the right equipment to check.

Fwah!! but I guess that's why its a leica. its like ferrari, need to send overseas to get specialised (read expensive) servicing!

is it that bad?
After all, with the exception of the M7 , most earlier leica RF cameras are as basic or mechanical in thei design and construction as many other cameras. .. and the fundamental design is at least 30-yrs old.

If you're into putting your M6 on a speed-tester... I recall reading from an article years ago that at the given speeds, there is still some variance from the stated speeds anyway (hence the advantage of digital technology - greater accuracy)...

that said, I think some of the better local techs (technic brothers?) should be able to do the simpler jobs... unless what you require is RF calibaration of shutter-speed calibaration, in which case may (read may) be better to return to factory.

Leica M2....Summicron 50mm & 90mm

Legendary...

Yes, agreed. Camera Hospital (CH) repaired my M3 and returned it to me in working condition. However, after a few shutter releases back home, the M3 shutter curtain broke! I took it back and CH offered to buy my spoilt M3 (by paying me peanuts) to fit into another M3 which he is now trying to sell at his shop! I really regretted selling my spoilt M3 to CH.

I had another second M3 which I took out to send to CH and he tried to offer to lok around for a used shutter to repair my M3 - I refused as I did'nt trust him after the earlier experience. Beware of the M3 shutters as they are very old and tend to break down easily. The only sure way is to get a brand new shutter repair done by Leica AG in Germany.

Don't let your Leica camera serviced by those Camera Hospital people! You know what the boss told me? He even have the cheek to tell me that my friend's Chrome M4-P is worthless as he said that they are so many around the world and would cost only $1200. He himself have a black M4-P which he said is very rare and he sell it for $2000. Really bull-**** man! Chrome M4-P is much much rarer than his black M4-P man, I wonder how well he know about Leica?!
Those technicians at Leica Singapore could not replace the shutter as I was told (by them) that they does not have the equipment for the calibration thing. Leica's stardand is damn high that even their lenses need to be centralise and calibrated to a certain specs (that took around almost half a day to do it in Leica AG, Solms, Germany). The Japanese manufacturer does not have this kind of spec as in the 70's Minolta was a Zoom-lenses supplier to Leica R-system and I was told that more than 80% of the Japanese fail during the final QC in Germany, tat is how strict the QC in Germany is!!!
