Rangefinder focusing techniques

i just bought the R2A. i agree in dim light focusing can be a bit tricky. especially if theres no sharp edges to assist - e.g. if u are photographhying people. what i did , was as what people advised, is just try and set the depth of field a bit deeper, and manually adjust the lens based on what i thought was the range to subject.

personally, im not concerned if the pictures dont come out tack sharp.

After comparing both, I prefer the one from eBay (etefore - Hongkong Supplies). Both are excellent optically (and are indispensable to me now), but the diopter on the MS Optical from Japan turned out to be the problem. It can easily move out of setting when inserting into the bag or with the camera hanging around my neck or shoulder, so I had to tape it in place. The one from HK has no diopter control, which is fine if those with eyeglasses like me view through eyeglasses. It comes with a pretty and small case too.

If you find the focussing spot too small you might consider getting the MS Optical X1.3 magnifier. Available in Japan only but you can buy it from unicircuits: http://www.unicircuits.com/shop/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=15&products_id=112

I use the MS Optical X1.35 for the Leica M and it is a very well-made product.
