R-D1(s) in Singapore?

Just wanted to share...
R-D1(s) will definitely be out in Singapore.

CP will be one of the retailers selling it & MSRP is $3888 as mentioned in the above posts.

I heard the M8 will be launched in Singapore in October, just after the Photokina. I hope so as the DMR took too long to reach Singapore.

Excuse me for begin ignorant, may I ask is U360 refers to the light excluding filter U360 which allows only UV light to enter? and what is BG41? Why do you want to test a camera with a Ultraviolet transmitting visible absorbing filter?

Hi Alvin, your observation is correct, U360 (close to Schott UG-1 found in B+W 403) is an UV filter optimised for 360nm. However, there is a small window of IR transmittable via this filter or any other UV filters (save the UG11x recently made available via Klaus from macrolens.de). BG41, 40, 38 are blue-green filter that can be used to attenuate IR and they can be used to make sure that what is being capture is truely UV and not a mixture of both. Here's an example of various "IR-blocking" filters and their effects...

As to why I'm using UV to test a camera? I occasionally do UV and the best digital setup irregardless of brand at the moment is Nikon D70+UV-Nikkor+SB-140. However, as with any (D)SLR, framing is slow (at least for me but Bjorn would disagree ) when a dark filter is placed in front of the lens. RF don't suffer from this (and focusing issue can be easily compensated) and I'm currently looking for a RF that can capture UV (and IR) well. Guess what? Most information on the Web indicates that R-D1(s) uses the same Sony sensor as D100 or D70... Therefore, this makes R-D1(s) the perfect camera I'm looking for. Now I just have to make sure before I buy one, and the ability to capture UV is a deal-breaker for me (and M8 is out in this regard). R-D1(s) and M8 have cropped factor sensors, whether 1.33 or 1.5 is still cropped, and the best part of a Sonnar or Noctilux is cropped off. So, what these cameras do in visible light is not so important to me at the moment (will Zeiss Ikon be fullframe?!?!).

I've already converted a JML 50mm (and some other UV-capable lenses) to be used on the M-mount. Now, I just need a UV-capable digital body

I must admit, i'm tempted though it's *only* a 6 mp, 1.5x crop body for that price....

When down to CP Marina today and tested the camera outdoor ... long story short, I bought the camera. I'm happy to report that the damn thing can see UV and IR pretty well Built-wise is a little lacking and the RF is ever so slightly off. Other than these, 6mp or no 6mp, it does what I want it to do so a nice piece :thumbsup:.

PS: There're only six in Singapore at the moment and they are all reserved/bought. Also, they are giving a free 1gig SD card, so it offset the cost a tad bit...

Most common faults with this body is a misaligned rangefinder and inaccurate framelines. Make sure you check for hot pixels at low iso settings, there will be some but make sure the number is not excessive. Congrats on your purchase.

Thanks, Terence Do you align your own RF or let someone else do it? I've heard they are quite similar to the Bessa.

Regarding hot pixels, I think there is a function for mapping out hot pixels (and I guess this should be available through the new firmware)... I'll check for them once the battery is charged.

can just use the function to map out hot pixels. since the function was introduced, i don't bother looking for hot pixels during post processing.

you can align the RF yourself if its just the vertical alignment off. Quite easy to do. I did it myself a while back. Check out this post: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18901. Let me know if you need help with this.
