i assume internal motor means Internal Focusing (IF)? :)

I don't think so, internal motor means it has a motor inside the lens so that camera like D40 without motor for the lens can used it. The new model with the motor is denoted as A16 if i am not wrong.

iirc, A16NII is the one with motor

im using d80 which one is faster the one with motor inside or the older one which doesnt have one?

Pardon me about the focus hunt. I still get this at times even if the room is brightly litted (room fitted with an over head flourescent tube) even with AF-Assist using the cams built in lamp. But I noticed that the focus is always true when I use my Speedlight. I am not sure if the Speedlight's AF is superior or the readings been transmitted to the cam is more quicker and accurate then the cam's own built in AF lamp. *SIGH* Bizzare....

Are you using auto-select focus points, or are you on a single AF point?

I do believe the Speedlight's AF lamp is much stronger, has better range and is generally superior to the on-camera assist lamp.

i have read many comments that the older version without motor is faster (for those cameras that can use it). that's because Tamron doesn't yet have any ultrasonic motors in their lenses. the old 18-50 version is hard to find in shops nowadays - easier to get 2nd-hand

I believe im using Single AF point calebk

Under dim light without proper contrast every lens can have difficulties in locking the focus. Even the precious little 50mm f/1.8 hunts up and down at times. Solution: use a defined AF point (e.g. center point) and point to an area with good contrast, then recompose. (Check your manual which options of AF lock you can use.)
Have you noticed that the focus assist beam of Speedlight is not just a red 'splash' of light? It has a grid pattern which helps the AF of the lens and camera to lock focus much faster. In contrast, the white AF assist beam of the cam doesn't have this distinctive pattern. The Speedlight itself doesn't have any AF, just the AF assist beam. It's always the cam and the lens that will lock the focus.

Hmmm, where to get locally in Pentax K-mount?

Hi guys, I need to ask something before I rushed into buying a tamron 17-50, I was wondering if you guys happen to have focusing jam / stop focusing when this lens mounted on D80? My fren bought one, he tried his 1st one... the focusing jammed after he shot a few shots, then he returned it and exchange for another new one, same thing happens to him too. I also came across one guy posted in another forum claiming his friend has the same problem as what my friend has encountered.

The focusing will returned to normal after the camera is switched off and switched on again. Then after testing a while, it jammed again.

Any idea what's wrong with it?

Thanks.
