questions about Image Quality (550vs7D) kindly enlighten me

perhap is the algorithm that is doing the trick as the processing style may nt be the same in each range of product I guessed. But for me, I did the comparison and love it! =P
I owned 500D n 7D be4 I switch to FF though.

If you still have the photos, would you mind posting them? I would like to see how much of a difference there is between the two.

Actually the ability to AF better and faster also translate into better image quality. Just like now when I compare my 1D4 and 7D, the 1D4 produces more consistent good quality images than the 7D. I also have 500D and 550D, I would also think that the 550D produces better quality than the 500D.

Hi there, I have both cameras and here are my thoughts on image performance between both cams:

- the 7D's ISO performance is definitely better than the 550D's. One can tell especially at ISO 3200.
- 7D seems to overexpose more than the 550D. I've set constant -1/3 EV and with highlight tone priority on on the 7D.

But for the thread starter, if money isn't a big issue, getting 7D will give u alot more possibilities and u will not tend to get poisoned over other bodies tat fast too =)

Haha actually with the rapid technological advancements, any camera body will get outdated and replaced in a couple of years. There's just no way to 'future-proof' as far as camera equipment is concerned.

I've never used the 7D before so can't compare, but yes, gotta agree that perhaps the biggest weakness of the 550D is the rather weak noise control at high ISOs.

The two models are using the same sensor design, only the processing is different. Try shooting in RAW and and process it in LR, chances are the differences would not be very visible.
