Question of CS members who buy low and sell higher

Yes action will be taken if it is sighted by the mods or reported by the members, and verified/confirmed by the mods/admins team. But of course this refers to traders doing business "undercover". For regular members "buy low sell high", of course nothing can/shall be done.

well, anyways, with the increasing number of bao dou threads these days, that might probably serve to dissuade such behaviour.

of course no laws are broken, but i would think that it is quite inethical.

as a side note, of course there are exceptions. let's say if you bought from cathay photo at discount period and sell for market price, i think nothing wrong with that.

Have you wondered why people would buy that item that was priced higher than its worth? I'm guessing maybe there are enough people who haven't done enough homework, thus willing to pay more for that item :dunno: If people are willing to pay at that price, that price it will be.

Just don't be that person shelling out the cash ;p

And ziploc's post reminds me of 7-11's pricing of some goods, which can fluctuate as you visit different stores along orchard road, just a thought.

7-11 is a franchise. same name but diff owner, no controlled prices

Thanks :) It is good to know that something would be done to such traders... and if they choose to advertise as an Advertiser... at least there is a fee to help contribute to keep CS free

ethics is not on an absolute scale. what's ethical to me might not be ethical to you. your CP example, i can always say you sell at a price higher than you bought, not ethical leh. =p

at the end of the day, willing buyer willing seller in a free market.

Look at the bright side. These "traders" add liquidity to the market.

There are always people who want to offload their equipment fast even though at slightly low price. Selling to these traders is fast and less fuss, just like used car dealers.

There are also risks and costs for these traders. They have to come uo with the cash first, look for buyers, meet buyers, and borne the risk that price may drop with newer model annoucement.

As a individual seller/buyer, we can decide at what price to sell or buy.

Just my 2cents.

dogs will be dogs and there are many in this forum, hope gerald you can understand that ah

I've had a guy call me to ask about my video tripod, cause he saw a post of mine in CS that mentioned I might be selling it. Next day, he was advertising my tripod in B&S! He put the price as "please offer". And he hadn't even made any attempt to buy it from me at that point. I notice that he often posts items with "please offer" as the price, I wonder how many of them he actually owns.

And right now, he is selling brand new items in B&S, in the video section. In fact it looks like the items are so new they are made to order, price depends on size wanted. If he's not a trader then I don't know who is.

I've seen members selling lots of items with reason "selling to upgrade" "selling to raise fund" and i personally wonder where did they get so much goods to sell? many of these items are quoted as "grey sets" or "mint conditioned" or "opened once only" in order to avoid buying the subscription package as a Commercial Seller.

This is an update to the Guidelines for the Buy & Sell sections.

Definition of Commercial vs Personal Sellers :-
Commercial sellers: Members who have been identified as regular/frequent sellers and/or selling in larger quantities, and may have registered businesses with long-term commitment in the goods/services that they offer. Sellers may have a retail front or registered place of business, and items sold are new and unopened.

Personal sellers: individuals who are offering goods or services to other members. Typically, personal sellers will only have one or at most two of the same items to sell, and those goods have been opened and used.

The Buy & Sell sections are primarily for Personal Sales, and we will remove without notice all threads posted by members who we have identified as falling into the Commercial Sellers category.

Commercial Sellers will need to purchase a subscription package that will allow them to advertise their goods/services in the Mass Order / Mass Sales section which is specifically catered for Commercial Sales. Please contact us for more information on the subscription packages available.

noted the behaviour. it is very disappointing to see such blatant actions.

however, he has not broken the T&C and his activities are not far out of the ordinary (yet).

buyers and sellers are encouraged to look out for these kind of situations yourselves and practice caution at all times when dealing with another person thru CS.

meantime if you guys spot any more of these kind of ninja sellers around, please report and we'll deal with them accordingly. =)
