Queenstown is one of the early housing estates in Singapore, built before Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio, and was a test bed for much of Singapore's public housing.
It was also Singapore's first satellite town.
A place full of heritage and more well known to the elder generation, many of the blocks have already been scheduled for the en bloc scheme.
Amenities and shops around the area have already been closed or moved to a new location.
A prominent building that still stands is the Queenstown Cinema and Bowling alley.
Built in 1977 and closed in 1999, the cinema, reached its peak in the late eighties.
The building is expected to be demolished by late 2011 to give way to new development of Queenstown and Commonwealth.
