didnt want to start a new thread on this, but happened to come across this chinese forum thread today on the 35/1.4 vs ultron 40mm f2

I always tot 35mm 1.4 wide open was not as good as raved ( low contrast, vignetting etc). But looking at the pics, it looks sharper than the ultron at f2 ! and my Ulton SL1 is already pretty sharp.

well the comparison was done stopped down at F2, and that was why everything appearered to be sharper. else wide open, its a little soft

I feel the Ultron shots are too soft. My ultron is way sharper than those shown in the pics.

Of course, Nikon AF 35mm f2 is better at f2. Its the best value lens after the AF50mm1.8. I shot Velvia exclusively with it and the oops and ahhs during a slide show was gratifying.:bsmilie:
