for stage 3 tip,

you can use photoshop to copy the image and duplicate the layer and adjust opacity to 50%. Meaning original image at below layer and duplicated layer with opacity 50% on the top layer. Move the top layer to the right ( use keyboard ) slowly until you see something ..
