Purchases from USA

hi,

i'm currently in Chicago, USA. any recommendations for online/store purchases whilst I'm here?

i'm actually going to look for a 350D/400D and some lenses.

are there stuff that i should buy only in Singapore e.g. filters etc?

seriously, apart from filters, to my knowledge, almost EVERYTHING's cheaper here...


Try not to buy in state due to taxes, but if possible, check www.fredmiranda.com for used equipment and get them to ship 2 day to your hotel... it's worth it.

oh no... i'm not a resident... i'm in Chicago til end of Sep and would really get some lenses and maybe even the 400D whilst I'm here.. but i really don't know where i should go for a good deal...

i don't mind buying online and having them delivered to the hotel.. but apart from B&H (not really cheapest), are there are other sites/shops I should go to?

filters (UV and Macro)
Cannon 50mm f1.8

I buy my stuff from www.buydig.com. But just buy the body/kit with nothing else, cuz the tend to overcharge for the accessories which are usually unknown brands. Their prices are good and reliable too. Have many friends who have bought from them.

Just a note to consider, for camera bodies, the warranty is usually limited to the US, so it might not be valid in Singapore. And also another note, some online shops in the US do not take foreign credit cards and do not ship to hotels.

I just realised you are staying only till end of Sep? Which means one more week? If that's the case you better make sure you have someone there to collect the items for you if you wanna order online. The shipping might sometimes be delayed and esp for hot items like the 400D there might even be a backorder. So do check carefully. Taking this into consideration, I think your best bet is to find a good shop in Chicago to shop in, but the thing about going to the shops is that you gotta pay sales tax, which is not included in online shopping (provided the online shop you go to is not based in Illinois).
