Hi,

Just wondering if there is such service in SG to protect against accidental damage/thief of camera during travels/events/parties/etc.

If so how much does it cost on avg?

Am I the only one wishing we had something like this here??:dunno:

afaik, i don't think there is such a thing in singapore. at least formal "camera insurance" per se. i could be wrong though.

there are forms of insurance such as home insurance, travel insurance that would cover your camera under certain conditions. not sure about the situations you describe.

here's a photography insurance site from the uk, not sure if it's legit, but you can look at it to gain some insights as to what it'd be like.

wow, of 50 view, only 4 vote. you mean most people not concern/interested to get a coverage for their camera (at ~35% of item value)?

Don't think we can get insurance cover from oversea. I know USA, Europe such places have very good insurance coverage. :( but not us.

You can definately get coverage in the UK and most western countries. In Singapore you'll need to just go see an insurance broker.

Ian, really? Singapore insurance got such cover? Who did you have your equipments insured under with?

What are their limits/conditions? Do they replace your damage 1:1 or reimburse cash?

Sorry for the questions, cos really want to know more as so far I'm really can't find any actual coverage on cameras.

Heard of such service in other country.

Cover for your phone/camera at a certain amt (ie. $3/4 per day) and if your equipment damage/stolen(proof by police report?) than they replace item for you with same item.

Any of you hear any such thing in Singapore?

So far, the only thing (insurance) i see in singapore only seems to cover up to $500 value max. Anythings cover the full replacement cost without the high premium??

I'm not in Singapore but camera insurance is available through insurance brokers globally. Call up a few brokers and ask them.

Mine is done through a the world's oldest insurer and it is a custom package for my business and cameras. Premium is 4% p.a. based on my purchase price and 5% p.a. on lenses over 10 years old. For that I get 100% coverage worldwide including theft, damage, accidental loss and damage by 3rd party or God (fire, flood, volcanic eruptions etc). This is a commercial package though, it also includes professional indemnity insurance, disability insurance and general business insurance etc. All the tools a working pro needs

Thanks Ian. However, the type of insurance cover you enjoyed is not available in Singapore.
Anyway, your input is much appreciated. Thanks!

It will be available in Singapore, but like I keep saying you'll need to talk to an insurance broker and it will be a custom package and not cheap.

Aye, Ian's right, you need to talk to your insurance broker.
My housemate's an insurance agent and I had the same conversation with him a year ago.
He recommended a particular company, name eludes my memory now, whose underwriters are more aggressive/willing. I'll ask him again later.
It's definitely custom and it won't be cheap.
So you need to figure out if it's worth it considering the total equipment cost.
I reckon if you're a professional, gear = work = income, so this isn't really something to skimp on I say.
Your home insurance should cover some, stuff from home that you may use outdoors, maybe possible to include some riders to that instead, but the best would still be something dedicated.
If you go this route, be sure to be meticulous about serial numbers and receipts; actually that's a good practice to have regardless.
The $500 limit you're referring to is what's offered by travel insurance packages.

Just to clarified, I did ever check with brokers before and what the Singapore market have currently I think comes under what they classified as either personal belongings or home insurance coverage something like that.

I will try to dig out more on what you mentioned abt customised coverage and see how it works. Well, I am only semi pro (doing photo/video work part time basis only) so can't afford too much. :D but from what Ian shared abt his coverage being only 4%pa on his purchase price. it seems very low for 100% coverage. cool!!
