Profoto B1 500 AirTLL

Have to wait till it supports the Canon 1 series. Nothing mentioned about Nikon too.

Most companies launch product compatible with Canon. For Nikon, gotta wait. I suppose this is one of the reasons Nikon lose out to Canon.

A friend tested with 1Dx.. its not very accurate and tend over expose.

Just make a comparison with i4 (less than 1/3 the B1 price & 400ws), the B1 is a more energy efficient strobe if budget allowed.

The protocol for 1d might be harder to implement...just look at pocketwizards...

Personally I think it is the brand name that sell. For close to USD 2400, I rather get 3 sets of 600EX with PW if I need TTL.
Maybe but fact is the 3 600EX will not produce 500w of light out put. Thatis more like 150 to 180w say 1/3 of a B1 max power.

3pcs i4 will give 1200ws power at same price :)

wats i4 ?

if the 600ex goes for 700 a piece 3 pcs would be 2100 about the price of a bare B1. I think Prophoto may have done their homework well enough if you are coming over from a canon or nikon flash user pov. Plus what no one wants to talk about is if you really use the camera makers flashes that heavily the wear and tear is pretty high - flash tubes go faster with higher usage. When I take into account the repairs over the last 5 years - I seriously think that if they had batter powered studio flashes that were good enough and reliable enough I should have gone that way. Now it looks like a case of see who else want to come and play in this area. The Chinese do have similar to B1 just with out the power adjust and TTL, they have other with external battery pack that have power control via radio trigger. The enstiens have power pack, pocket wizard ttl. So there are choices still.

Manufacturers that produce battery built in strobes are:

1) Profoto --- newest & first with TTL
2) Priolite -- Germany -- up to 1000ws -- not sure
3) RiMELITE -- Korea -- support power control with original trigger -- only in Malaysia now
4) Nicefoto -- China -- may try with Artworkfoto
5) Visico -- China -- look exactly the same with Nicefoto
6) Jinbei -- China - look like priolite

Interesting equipment but 3kg head weight is not really portable for location use on stand or boom if we don't have assistant. Prefer battery pack and separate head. Requires sandbag and stronger lightstand etc hence more things to carry.
