[ Product Discussion ] - Olympus E-5 hand on _thought and sample pic

Maybe can take it one step further by adding a scanner in the OVF to scan exactly where your eye is looking at and autofocus onto it. :bsmilie:

Its been done before, the Canon EOS 5 IIRC,is a camera with eye control, but people like me wearing specs a bit troublesome so no thanks,I'd go with the traditional choosing AF points of even more traditional, MANUAL FOCUS :bsmilie:

Pls pardon my ignorance, didn't know such high tech stuff already exists since the film days. :embrass: I wonder why it's not used anymore, I think it is quite useful for lazy ppl like me.

Its ok,I never knew it existed until I saw someone selling on Ebay :bsmilie: Join the club that most Canon guys are in,all are wondering why isn't it in digital, I find its useful if you have the 51 or 50 plus AF points in the higher end cameras from the other brands, 11 is good enough for mah, 11 cross AF points

hehe Sony had the primitive one already in thier A33/A55 when you look into EVF it's auto focus for you.... so before you even press the shutter you have the focus lock already.

i loved that old tech. a pity canon didnt follow up with subsequent models.

Robin Wong has updated his blog with some macro shots and boy am I impressed.

yeah i was impressed too. plus he says the 50mm macro AF faster and almost did not hunt which is another good news

I've tried that last week, it really is a lot faster and no hunting

No thanks! Unless the screen is seriously tough enough to survive abuses by a chimp(tests by Panasonic on their Toughbooks) :bsmilie: but really, the way pros use, touch screen is probably not the best thing, probably the PENs and entry DSLRs are ok:think:

If they're going to support face tracking, it's not a bad thing. How many times does face tracking get something other than a face and you'd like to eliminate it?

good news indeed, AF macro with 50mm on e620 is eee-orrr-eee-orrr like a donkey:bsmilie:

So far in my limited use of the feature, nothing of that sort has happened before... its a nifty feature i must say.

While you're waiting, does it advertise their other products, also? :bsmilie:

hehehe hmmm that I am not sure :bsmilie: but I know it display everything you're seeing on your LCD to the EVF... next time I think they'll have TV reciever so you can watch TV while shooting :bsmilie: (just kidding). But seriously its a neat trick/feature, I think it ties with the eyepiece sensor coz everytime you use EVF the LCD goes off and vice versa...

Anyways let go back to E5 sample photos... :) so far the sample photos are great of course what do you expect from a flagship, coz it is it just a tad better than EPL1 how would Oly sell this.. I think this new Processor and Algorithm will eventually be in the future Oly bodies. Would be exciting to see the next gen of EPXX or even E-XXX

lols when I was using my E620 with 40-150 and 14-54 after the eeee-offf-eeee-orrrr next sound comes from me &*%(&$#((!!! lols:bsmilie:

Really thanks the organisers for organising this hands on session for E5.

Few things that caught me off was the removal of the IS button and IS live preview button. Could someone who's got enough time with E5 tell me if it still can be activated by holding down some buttons? I regularly use that function while shooting with manual lenses plus live magnification.

Art filters response seems much faster and has been integrated into picture mode instead of a mode by itself. Although alot of people don't care about this i think it'll make me want to try out more.

WB seems to be good from the photos i took of the model with just the modelling lights on.

Nothing to write home about reagarding noise performance (as expected) but at least it looks usable at 1600 compared to E3.

Like the new hinge card door instead of the spring out type on E3.

They should've done something on the size and weight like K7/K5. They should've used the E30 weight and dimension and make it weather seal instead then try to fit the E3 viewfinder in.

It's my belief that a few firmware changes will improve the E-5 further as they gather real life experiences from many people.

I wonder if, next year, they'll do something with Panasonic's newer sensor, once they're more familiar with its characteristics.

The second update for firmware v1.0 is promising. There is performance improvement and further refinement to the image quality in general. Notable. :)

Minolta has implemented the eye start feature long ago in the film era and this feature has been carried to the digital age in all Alpha mount cameras.

Sample HD video from Olympus.

I want to focus by touch screen!

no thanks..I don't want my nose doing some setting while my eye is looking through that viewfinder.
