Problems with Sony VG30 video clips in Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hey People,

I have a few burning questions. I hope someone could help me.

Currently, I am editing a wedding video where it was shot on Sony VG30. It frustrated me a lot since I start editing 3 weeks ago. I could not take it anymore. Need some insights or guidance on this. I don't have this problem with my Canon 60D and Panasonic FZ200.

What I faced :-

1. Choppy playback with .MTS extension
- I searched the net, there were advices that I should convert .MTS to .MPG. In order to be edited in Premiere Pro. I did. And it worked.

2. Choppy playback again after each editing session with .MPG extension
- Every time, I wanted to continue my editing the next day or next session. The playback is still choppy. Why ?

3. Video Convertor
- I realised that I cannot do batch list video conversion with Adobe Media Encorder or with my Atube Catcher. Yes, they able to convert .MTS videos into .MPG but the audio will only last for 45 seconds. Then, total silence.
- Downloaded the MPEG streamclip but it cannot worked. Been trying that for the past few days. It cannot read .MTS video files.

My burning questions :-
1. Is there a way around or a solutions to the problems I am facing ?
2. Do I need Sony Vegas Pro to edit .MTS extension ?
3. Which video convertor software that can do batch list without losing its audio ?

Would appreciate any kind of guidance.

Thank you.

Rodney>>> My playback resolution I set it at full resolution. I am using CS5.5. I don't see you complaining about Sony codecs. I guess something wrong with my software or something. I guess, it is time for me to upgrade my setup. 3 years already.

Ryan>>> 8GB of RAM. Should be sufficient, I presume. I have no problems previously. This is my very first encounter.

I find it very funny.

Now, my current way of working around it. For each editing session, I will create a new sequence with Canon XF MPEG2 30fps. I will copy and paste all the video clips on the new sequence. There won't be any choppy playback.

Haha! I don't complain about sony's codec cos I don't edit them! I have to ingest all my VG30 footage as Prores 422 first before I can even edit them on FCP7.
BTW, why shoot/edit 30fps in PAL land?

Rodney>>> The couple did not engage my services. The couple was very big hearted in allowing the parents to "sponsor" their wedding video. I guess, the wedding video did not turn out or met their likings. So, they asked me to edit. I can't do much with the footages that I have because I did not shoot them. The files given was in 30fps.

I see you ingest all your VG30 footages. Using what software ?

Anyway, that is how I edit their wedding video as of now. New Canon XF sequence every session. That's the way that I can work around it.

I use log-and-transfer in FCP7 for 25p and clipwrap for 50p AVCHD.
