Hi guys

Need your help. I have tried to use NERO to edit my videos from my Fuji Digital Camera. There seem to be a lost in resolution after I burn them on VCD. Why is that?

My wife is using Panasonic LX2, her videos are saved as mov extension files. Which for some reason is not reconized by NERO nor Windows movie maker. Is there any free video clip editing software in the market that I can try out?

Thanks

Hi,

Have you tried burning it onto a dvd instead? VCD's quality is really bad.

Regards

VCD is fixed at 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL). That's why you will see a drop in resolution.

Hi, even burning to DVD might not help much because, the original (raw) captured video resolution plays an important role too. I agree that VCD's quality is bad.

My two cents worth.;)

Hi Guys

Thanks for the input. Please recommend what software to burn videos from Camera into DVD.

Thanks

when you export a video from your video, there is processing done to the output video, based on the format you want to save it as. to apply compression to fit into vcd sizes, there are also a few coding-decoding algorithms (formulas) (commonly called codecs) that are available. so some codecs are more lossy (i.e. throw away from information do compress more, just like low jpeg and gif in image). to get a higher quality video, you prob need to change the codec you want to apply onto your video when you export it. they should be options that you can find when doing export.

but the flexibility with choice of codec is more with non-vcd type exporting. i read that codec xvid, http://www.gromkov.com/faq/general/divx_quicktime_wmv9.html is a better format. your file will end up with .avi format these probably need software players with appropriate codecs to play on your computer. xvid can be played normally on windows media player.

however, to burn into DVD/VCD player readable formats, that has more limited options. and that area, i'm not that good. if you want quality though, size will be big. and the same dvd, played on a DVD player will look much better in terms of image quality. i'm guessing it has more to do with the way TV and computer displays are different, and how DVD players typically uses progressive scanning now.

cheers! :)
