Problem with V600 Scans..Please Help!

Hi everyone, I originally posted this under the 'Printers and Scanners' section but I didn't get much response. I figured I'll post this here since I did use a rangefinder to take these photos anyway.

I just purchased an Epson V600 yesterday. My first few 35mm scans seemed to be perfectly fine. But today when I tried scanning again I noticed these single lines starting to appear right across the frames (might appear abit faint here):

Funny thing is, they would only appear (and consistently, too) on negatives that I place on the left side of the film holder; the right side comes out fine

This happens for both black/white negative and colour negative scans. I'm quite sure it is a problem with the scanner itself but just to fill you in, here are my scan settings:

Black/White: 16 Bit Greyscale, 2400dpi, 34.8mm x 22.7mm, Auto Exposure on, Unsharp Mask on, Digital Ice on
Colour: 48 Bit Colour, 2400dpi, 34.8mm x 22.7mm, Auto Exposure on, Unsharp Mask on, Digital Ice on

Has anyone experienced this before? I'd greatly appreciate any help!

I get that with my V600 as well. I find that after scanning that row a few times, the line disappears. Maybe the sensor needs to warm up or something.

Thanks for the your inputs kcchew. Seems like quite a persistent problem. So it is still happening every now and then for you? Think I'll send an email to Epson to verify.

Try resetting the Epson scan software to default and scan again. It happened on my V700 initially too.

Honestly i find scanning the most painful boring and difficult part of photography.

Shooting and developing are both so fun. The the scanning that really annoys me.

eh a friend's scanner had the same problem. but his was a tri color (red blue green) line running across the scans at every frame. epson also.

hi,

i had this problem when scanning 120 format. doing a google, some website mentioned that cleaning would be required. i brought it in to epson singapore, they fixed it after 2 weeks and return it back to me. i have yet to see the lines. the lines appear vertically.

hope this helps

Thanks raytoei, that helps. But it's quite a disappointment to have to send the scanner away for two weeks, when I've only bought it for 4 days.... :( Guess it can't be helped.....will update you guys again once I get it fixed, thanks all for your inputs!

Hi all, just to update, I emailed Epson and turns out that the problem was due to an outdated driver. I downloaded and installed the latest driver from the Epson website and it is working fine now. I must say Epson was quite quick in helping solve this issue for me, so a thumbs up to them.

Hope this helps others who are facing a similar problem. Thanks everyone for helping!
