Problem getting a sharp photo images using Canon300D compare to mine Nikon 5700

Recently I have bought a new Digital SLR Canon 300D to replace my old Coolpix5700. After 2 months of photo taking, I realised that all photo taken using 300D not able to achieve what I want. Very very disappointed with this Canon 300D. Frankly, my old Coolpix 5700 took even better photo images. Can anyone tell me anything to do with Canon lens F3.5 or because my coolpix 5700 having a large Aperture F2.8 and that's the reason why it's appear to be sharper ? or maybe some other reason ?

Wanna get the best quality out from 300D ? Buy prime lens, or if you got $$$ go for L lens. I have asked the same question to myself before. I am a user of Canon powershot G2 last time, have upgraded to 300D lens kit and found out 300D photo taken was not as good as it was taken from my Canon G2. My G2 shot was very sharp even at wide aperture. For 300D lens kit, you have to stop down at f8 to gain sharpness especially at the corner of the photo. Finally having my lens upgraded to "L", the photo taken was superb. Sharpness, clarity and details surpass my G2.
