Hmmmm.....need some help here.....

want to print some digital photos....but not sure wats the size of the photo to save in for a 4R print...as in ? x ?.......or is it a ratio?

Dun want to have the printing shop crop it........

Also any recommendation as to where to print and whats the pricing like??

Hope u guys understand what i trying to ask......

Thanx!! :sweatsm:

4R -> 3 x 2 ratio

4R is 4 inches x 6 inches or abt 50mm x 100mm

Normal lab charges abt $0.50 per 4R.

do I have to crop/ edit the photos before printing?

can just pass to the shop as it is?

If you don't crop, you'll have white borders at the sides of the photo. Some labs can print exact 4:3 ratio.

hi,

just another question from a novice....

what do you all mean need to change to what 3:2 ratio..... how to do it ?

isn't it after downloading to PC and burn to cd, just pass the cd and select to print.

excuse me, I'm new to digital imaging and printing. :embrass:

Ouch ouch....that's too expensive....Kodak does theirs on Royal paper for 35cents a piece of 4R. You can even print just one!!!

THe outlet i asked was the Kodak shop in Ginza plaza, Pasir Panjang Rd. I suppose if you see it in one Kodak shop you see it in all?

For example, a 2 megapixel cam can take pics at 1600 x 1200 max resolution. That's 4:3 ratio. But labs usually process prints at 3:2 ratio, so you must crop it down to 1600 x 1067. If you're using PS, there's the crop tool.

If you don't crop, the lab will either do it for you, or you'll get white borders on your prints.

hi chinsiong,

do you mean after download to Pc and burn to cd, i'll need to alter the size to 3:2 ratio or crop it down to 1600 x 1067, save it and then pass the cd to the printing lab.

how do i do it the ration change, pls advise as clearly as possible, many thanks ! :embrass:

Generally, the more expensive places gives better quality, as they will balance the colour and do 'reasonable' crops and resizing.

Between Fuji and Kodak, I am ALL FOR FUJI. I have had several LARGE disappointments from Kodak. But I have friends who'll give their lives to Kodak instead of Fuji, well... the individual.

While we are talking about resolution and size, Fuji machines are 300dpi, which means that for 4R, 6" x 4", you need 1800 x 1200 pixels to take full advantage (anything more is also wasted space). A 3MP camera will be more than sufficient. A 2MP camera, at 1600 x 1200 will be slightly insufficient for full 4R unless the resolution is reduced. However, printing with two white/black borders on the left and right will maintain the 300dpi and 4R for a 2MP photo.

My own practice is to crop and resize to 1800 x 1200 by myself in Photoshop for 4R printing. You can even do digital artwork like image combination etc.
