Primes for wedding

Don't sell your 70-200 f/2.8 - yes, telephotos are the commonly underused lens generally, but since you already had the f/2.8, just keep it. If you sell it, I can almost guarantee you will miss it or even buy it again someday.. :bsmilie:

Haha my sentiments exactly.. I know i will miss it for sure. Thx for helping me clear my evil thoughts. I shall just wait for someone to buy my 1D3 and buy a 5D2 :)

My 70-200 F4 is seldom used... but I still hanging onto it.......... but if I am on FF, it would be too short, and need 70-300mm.....

If 70-200mm F2.8 MK III is lesser in weight, I will consider it, as I could not handle the weight..... :(

Dun have the biceps of avsq........

Opps... I missed the subject part... sorry....

Newer toy can last longer... in the sense that it will not age that fast.... and in 2 yrs, you will feel your 5D2 very very very old... but if you get a 5D3.... not many cam can be as solid as the 5D3....

If you can accept that 5D2 is aging very rapid, then, you can buy 5D2.....

I think I will camp out and wait for 5D3 price to dive... in 2 yrs maybe.........
My 7D was planned to last me 3-4 yrs.....

Well.. The headache thing is whether the 5D3 is worth me selling 70-200 mk2 and 1D3?

You should definitely clear away the 1D3... I sold mine 2 months before 5D3 was released. Lucky foresight haha.

But the 70-200 Mk II... Should keep if you can.... Great lens.

np. I think BnS should have some buyers. I've once sold memory card to a clubsnapper, he told me he just bought a 2nd hand 1D body, cos to him, 1D series is something "everyone" would eventually dream of owning. I guess there will be someone who is willing to take it up.

bleah, my 70-200L is also the f/4 IS. my 24-70L is already bothering me enough as a lens! :p

I think my 70-200L is quite a pitiful lens. I have NOT shot a picture that was kept (well, I did played with it and shoot rubbish) since the day it was purchased. :bsmilie:

I just bring it around, just in case I need the extra reach. I find the 70mm of my 24-70L on an APS-H sensor good enough most of the time.

I think my UWA is likely to suffer the same fate haha.. 24-70L on APS-H is really like magic for me.

For me..... I feel that when I use 70-200mm indoor... I really wished it have IS.... and I could not bump the ISO too high or it would be another problem..... I do use it annually for 2 days for the sport events.... For outdoor, it is perfect... but in low light.... very terrible..........

That's why when I think of buying 70-200mm F4IS or 70-300mm IS.... I know it is likely $2K that spend more time in dry box than on the cam.... so that's why I am still holding on 70-200mm F4........ For tele photo zoom.... no IS is really challenging............ F2.8 is too heavy for me....

So far, my UWA is not suffering from this... luckily... I never know shoot UWA so often............but I was recently doing a project shooting architectural...

Yes, telephoto really need IS. It must be a challenging time back in the days where photogs only have either 70-200 f/2.8L USM or 70-200 f/4L USM. No IS, no awesome high ISO. Getting high enough shutter speed to stop action for indoor sports or sport events held at night, I can't really imagine it. Haven't been through that.

I think for wide-angle table shots, distortion is guaranteed to be there, even if you try to shoot at 24mm. Have to do some correction in LR.

If u angle it correctly at 24mm, should be ok.

I wonder how those in films days survived........

We are fortunate in some senses, as we can switch the ISO with ease........ and not load a whole new roll of film........

Just a hard call..... I was thinking if I get FF, I sell the 70-200mm F4 for the 70-300mm L with IS..... and in future... maybe a 70-200mm F2.8 IS.....

Just some thoughts.....

I do not think telephoto zoom is used for wedding.....

Some people do use it though, but that would be only 1 - 70-200 f/2.8 IS

I normally use the 14mm and the 85mm combo. Seldom find the need to switch to other lens with this combo. 14mm offer a very interesting perspective and have less distortion compared to 16-35. 85mm really gives the magical feel. Most of the bride and groom's friends and relative would have the standard type of lens and they probably will get shots similar to yours. I know cos each time I pose my couple, all their friends will crowd behind me to shoot them at the same time. So my shots has to turn out different form theirs and must look better. So one way is to have lenses that not many of them would have, and that will offer of different fresh perspective. I do have a 16-35 and 70-200 in my bag as a spare, just in case there are situation which calls for it. Eg. couple walking down the aisle in the church. I will need the 70-200 to help track them accurately and quickly down the aisle.

It all depends on how big the wedding is.

Usually... in Singapore... I think not many big wedding.... I think 70-200mm F2.8 is used slightly by wedding photographer.........

Have anyone tried shooting with only 1 body for events (generally any kind) and using a lens changing bag to swap lenses (primes)?

For normal event you only need 24-70 & 1 FF Body + speed light to cover all the event.
If you need prime lens like 50L it is can used for lowlight and without flash at all.

Yes. But better not. You'll miss moments due to changing lenses. And you'll definitely have to change lenses here and there.

yes. you need to have a good feel of what the event is about, how it is going to flow, what kind of space you have and what you are going to shoot to know which lens to bring and mount as primary so that you won't have to change lens here and there.

24-70L or 24-105L is a good primary lens to use for most cases. Or a 70-200L if you are shooting fashion show/runway.

I've done that before, but only with preparation and full knowledge of the timetable.
Went for the rehersal to try out the angles and shooting spots, then during the wedding you won't be surprised.
During the switch over, or end of each part, you can change lenses, but during the walk down the aisle, a zoom is best and set to continuous focus/multiple fps.
