Prime set for GH4

Hey everyone!

So basically as the name suggest, i'm using a gh4 and looking to get a proper set of primes. Ok with getting a speedbooster but the most important thing is that they must all match in looks, which means they'll probably need to be of the same make.

Any suggestions?

what's your budget?

Rokinon has a set of cine primes for M43:
12mm T2.2, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5

If you really got money to splash then go for any 3 of the SLR Magic cine primes. Various options including:
10mm T2.1, 12mm T1.6, 17mm T1.6, 25mm T0.95, 35mm T1.4/T0.95, 50mm T0.95

otherwise, if you are really looking for low cost high performance, get the Kish cinema lenses set (10mm F4, 18mm F4, 38mm F4) with a C-Mount adapter. whatever footage is out there looks really good and the lenses have great build quality.

Do you have a budget in mind? The set that I could think of when it comes to colour matching will probably be the Zeiss Compact Prime 2 family. That being said, these are definitely not cheap, but they come with the usual cine goodness like long focus throw, calibrated markings and geared focus ring

Well I don't really have a specific budget in mind, just going to slowly increase my set piece by piece from my monthly salary. That said the CP2 is definitely way out of my budget.

hmmm rokinon/samyang has always been on my radar. just not exactly sure if i should get that one... should I get an EF/Nikon G mount version and speedbooster them to my gh4?

Looks overpriced. Same items at BHPhoto work out to US$1898 before shipping.

Think the good thing about going non-mft mount is that you're not locked into mft for your next camera. Focal-length wise, the four lenses will give you equiv. 34-120mm with the SB. May find it lacking on the wide end? I'd pass on the 50mm and look for a wide option.

Btw, I got a quote from SLRMagic some months back for the 35/1.4 and the 17/1.6, just sharing it for comparison:

Hmmm yeah I've been thinking if i needed the 50 that soon also. Most of the time i'm on 35, 85 and a 21. On the wide end, I suppose i can hold on to my 12-35 for now.

Since u have covered the wide angles ...

U can consider getting the Sigma 50 1.4 ART ... Put it with the speedbooster and u will get a 75mm Prime with F/1.0 ...

So far, it looks outstanding from users doing that.

Yeah, they are. Personally, I'd lean that way too. More flexible, not locked into MFT.

Honestly the SLR Magics are a tricky buy... Some users have complained about colour inconsistencies on different sets of the same model

Hmmm think i'll get a set of rokinon/samyang cine primes. the latest ones are dual scaled and color treated for consistency. Overall better for stuff i work on also ah! Will keep you guys updates on footage

if you are buying the Samyang Cines, just make sure you get the DS versions, because those are the newer colour-matched ones.
thinking of acquiring a set myself, for GH3 and BMCC with speedbooster, along with one or two old Nikon manual zooms. looking at the 80-200 f4.5
