Prime/Macro Lens for Minolta

Hi fellow bros and sis,
bought a 50/1.7 recently and got hook onto prime lens. Can anyone share any experiences with other prime/macro lens? What the commonly available prime/macro lens I can got in the market now? Have anyone have tried and have Tamron SP 90 AF 2.5 or Tamron SP AF 90 2.8 Di before? Any comments?

Got the Tamron 90mm (not the Di version though). Good lens that can produce decent pictures. Got to shoot manual though. The AF hunts quite a bit. Worth getting. :thumbsup:

I agree with Galdor. I have the non Di version too. When shooting macro, AF really cannot work. HAve to use MF, but the results are fabulous. Last check with MS Col. is $590 for the new DI version.

Thanks for the feedback. How is the Tamron lens performance as a portrait lens? Thinking of using it as one. Any other feedback on other lens other than c z lens which is beyond my reach.

Haven't tried taking portraits with my Tamron lens but most people would say that it's too sharp to be used as a portrait lens. Why not get a KM/Sony 50mm for portraits instead?

I got mine from a fellow CSer. Seems like it's quite a hot lens now. Price wise, should be about $200 bah. :dunno:

They tend to show up in the "marketplace" section every now and then. Cost from 100-225 depending on condition, if it's the new or the old one, with or without box, etc etc

yeah..i will be patient! missed out on 2 chances last yeah..bro C's and bro D's.....searching CS, internet sites and ebay are my daily routine now..

anyway to the TS, i own a Tamron 90SP (non-DI) version too.. its a good lens, sharp. AF is slow and travels quite a lot, but shouldn't be a problem for portraits. In any case theres a focus limiter if you want a faster AF. And yeah..use MF or move your body to focus for macro.

I agree with rOnGrEn, AF is taking FOREVER especially when you are close to your subject... 90mm is really good for babies/kids as you don't have to stand too close to them when shooting.

Btw, rOnGrEn. Do you have a hood on when using the 90mm? If so, is it useful and do you always have that hood on?

I have been using the T 90mm non D for most of my macro shots. so far it serves me well. as for the hood, i dont really have that on when shooting. sometimes, i dont even have a filter on. :sweat:

hmmz.. i almost always have a hood on for the Tamron 90sp as i keep the lens with the hood reversed...so when i use the lens.. the natural thing to do is put on the hood.. i don't know if the hood is useful in terms of preventing flare as i alwiz have it on... but the hood is useful as it prevents you from hitting anything in front of you if you focus with your body... but in anycase... the front element of the lens is receded into the lens.. so no damage done even if there's no hood or filter on.. :bsmilie:


but do take note if you are shooting macro and using flash, the extra length of the hood might cast a shadow... then maybe you can move the flash away from the hotshoe... mount it on a bracket or something..
