Hi, any clues what's the price of M8 now. Saw this thread http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48923 that current price at $6.5k~$6.8?
You must add GST.
You must add GST.
yeah, wonder if he's talking about after GST rebate since he's ang moh from overseas.
but even with rebate... @ 7.1-7.2k???
so cheap?

Yes. Even lower if you are prepared to pay cash.
Hi
It's true! I was at Alan Photo just an hour ago and was quoted a price of $6300 - my choice of black or chrome - $6714 with taxes etc. I presume that's the cash price. The guy at the shop kept hinting to me to grab it before the imminent price increase
I was in a hurry so I didn't ask to touch and feel one - I had wanted to check the stock firmware that came with the body to ensure that it's not from one of the earlier batches. IMHO, the only "safe" M8 to buy now is one tat comes with firmware 1.108, which supposedly comes on all the latest M8 to roll off production (and is not user installable).
I must say it's mighty tempting at this price!

Funan or SLS? Any lenses to go with?
I think all first batch M8 with some hardware problem were recalled by Schmidt Marketing. They have sent them back to Solms for update & re-condition. In fact, Schmidt may have some of these re-cond M8 for sales. I was quoted about $6500 about 3 months back.
I don't mind getting a re-cond unit if it has local warranty for that price!
Btw first batch hardware fixes are not the same as the SDS (sudden death syndrome) fix I believe. Users suffering from SDS had some transistor replaced when Leica eventually discovered the fix for it - that's the so-called "Revision 2" boards.
And Leica recently sent out a newsletter stating that firmware 1.108 will now be loaded on new bodies due to a change in internal components but that functionally it is the same as the user downloadable 1.107 on current M8 hardware.
So my guess is if a new M8 comes with 1.108, it's likely it is a very recent batch, preumably with most of the issues ironed out....
