20D in China, HK and US etc. are all below S$2k, but the problem is warranty, why Canon no international warranty just like IBM laptop...

Topster, welcome to CS. This is a rather unique forum. Lots of members post +1 post again and again, and it's considered acceptable. By the way, there is a limit of how fast you can post. I believe is 1 minute of something like that. Not very rapid in my book.

So, before you hit back, understand where you are first before making a fool of yourself.

Of course, news of price drop is good news to those in the market. Max and my comments regarding price drop is, even though prices is lowered, it does not means upgrading is a must.
Oh, one more thing. I don't defend blindly. I just comment on dumb posts.

Thats why i say posting many posts in rapid sucession is considered spam in MOST forums didnt say it was in this forum.

Its kid's talk for kid's talk...so you can understand. Kid.

price drop is good for all:thumbsup:

Since we can't get a good price locally, why not do a MO from overseas?

we all waiting for 35D haha

Buying new gadget, camera, PDA, phone is adictive, but it is not like gambling where one can get into finantial trouble. This is usually within the means of one person or worsed stretching to one's limit, but still within one's ability to own it.

When new model coming out, the existing owner is happy to get new gadget and the not-so-rich person also have oppoturnity to own another piece of gadget at good price. I don't see there is anything wrong with that, one man's gain is another man's lost.

As long as you are still happy with your existing gadget and you have paid for what you got, what the second hand price affect you? Why are you worrying about price drop if you are not selling??

The whole problem with you people who reacted so strongly is due to selfish reason: because you are also one of the people who are waiting to upgrade and worry about the price of your current 20D drop too much. You are one of the potential person who contribute to this drop, it is just a matter of timing that it happen.

Many of us are falling into such a trap, for example, when I was stucked at causeway, I was scolding and making remark that why these "idiot" must visit Malaysia at this period, they have nothing better to do? But forgetting that I am also one of the idiot who choose to go Malaysia at this time.

Second hand market is willing buyer willing seller situation, no one force you to sell lower is you don't want, if many buyers and sellers are willing to deal at certain price, that is call "market value". Market value is driven by market, not one or two person who can influence.

humm, price drop overseas and not in Singapore is just going to encourage parallel import, and that will kill the Singapore market isn't it? And Singapore pricing will be forced to drop.

We can always convert local warranty to 6mths tourist warrant which is international.

I support the price war! It will only benefit consumers like us! Too me I believe in getting second hand, let the first owner suffer the price drop first. There will always be S*u*c*k*e*r*s who will always buy the latest camera and sell it after 6mths.

but if so.. why are these pple call "S*u*c*k*e*r*s" to u? .....  :nono:

Me loh! I bought the Fuji S9500 on impulse when it was launched during Comex for $999, and sold it off at $800 2 months later. Bought the Nikon mount Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 for $8++ and sold at $600 one year later when I bought the Nikon 18-200 VR, all because the idea of chasing for "New product launch". There are many other examples to tell people how S U C K E R I have been ......

But never regret because it is affortable and not very often. You never know it until you have a real thing to play with in your hand. Off course, not everything were bought and sold in a short time frame, for example, the D70 have been with me since April 2004 and still happy with it.

wah price drop good leh, can buy 1 spare :bsmilie:

The post on buying-selling of cameras upon the launch of new models reminds me of the mobile-phone retail industry of several developed Asia-Pacific Nations.

While there might not be a need to constantly upgrade from phone to phone every year or less, such happens way too frequently that not to purchase the newest model casts questions on those resistant to doing so.

Certainly there is no doubt that older models would still work, but the desire to have the newest, sleekest and "best" model breeds in us all.

Although I frown at teens who blow any little bit of their savings on the newest phone model, I trust that most photographers here have reasonable means to support their desires...and as such, see no big issue changing ever so often.

Prices of products drop. People buy new stuff. Some sell at quickest possible moment.
No big deal.

Think the sales-resale situation for cars, in Singapore reflect the same.

LOL hmmm.. Dunno about how you guys feel.. Canon Singapore protects it's users quite well..

To prevent too much drastic drops in values of products, they always release new products at high high prices and maintain it.. :P

Hmm well anyway thanks for the news.. Looking at the prices for some 2nd hand 20Ds with no warranty.. can get a brand new one shipped in from overseas liaoz.. same same without warranty anyway. cheaper still.

If new bodies come out and I need the function in them, I dont see why I shouldnt upgrade, even if I bought a camera 1mth before. Its really based on your needs and not whether you should keep up to dat with technology or not.

hmmm JediForce4ever => curious.. but what would functions that you need be? all basic functions that are needed are available on most digital SLRs right.. the rest are more like wants aren't they? it's nice to have this, it's nice to have that.. the "lack" of tech hasn't really stopped many people from taking wonderful photos right?
