Hi all. Anyone have got any idea what is the average pay for shooting and editing a 4 hour school graduation ceremony? 2 cameras and cameraman. How much should I or "we" be paid in total?
Thanks.

what about post ? wats the deliverables?

i think around $1200-$1500 just for the shoot. depends if you're recording the whole event or just snippets and if you're a freelancer or if you're part of a mnc (heehee)

Will be recording the whole event from start of presentation, speech etc. to end. What should the price range be, if the organizers want everything in raw footage and let them do their own editing? Thanks for the reply. Cheers.

if your're just handing them the tapes then i would say around $1200-$1500, but if you have to digitise and hand them files then i would add another $300 to the quote.
of course your client will say its too much and someone else will cave and do it for $800 hehe, welcome to singapore land of undercutting hehe...

Agree with Jasonjoseph on the undercutting... you may want to undercut other ppe too!

I know of freelancers who can do below 1K for 1 cameraman with 2 cameras (1 master wide unmanned + 1 close up). If the client do not appreciate quality and only want a documentation of the proceedings on DVD, post will only take 1 day (to sync and trim and render). $700-$900 for 1.5 day's work is certainly lucrative to most freelancers.

I myself have done a no-frills recording of a seminar for my SAF unit straight into a DVD recorder, and burnt the dvds right after. Total effort = 30 mins equipment setup + shoot entire length of event + 30 mins to burn DVDs on the spot. I bet there are ppe who will charge $400 or less for such effort. This kind of setup can produce professional seminar DVD recordings that goes on sale (I've seen quite a few DVDs of such output quality)

Altho there is no formula, but I think there are a few factors to consider for every proj,

1) manhr effort in shooting the event (more cameramen or longer event = more salary payout)
2) manhr effort in editing (more camera pts = more footage = more time cost. & No. of revisions?)
3) opportunity cost (you may have to give up a potential 5K proj just to shoot this event)
4) value of the proj to the client (if he is gonna sell each DVD for 10K, I'll charge him sky-high. Just like wat the music industry practise for music copyright)
5) How much the project means to you (who knows, you may want to do it for free?)

Basically you can just quote wat you think is fair to you. That's how the market works.
But for video, you should not charge on a per-hr basis like most photographers, coz you may end up spending 20X the shooting hrs during post-production due to the multi-cam setup, or for some last minute special requirements by your client. Always be clear about your final deliverables (sell the product, not the per-hr service)

10k for dvd ? typo issit heheh :)

Don't forget "pipeline" is theres potential for the client to hire you on an on-going basis then you can afford to lower your quote a little.

alternus: nice setup for the recording you should market it more, cos a lot of photogs now doing the on the spot shoot and print thing, so why can't videographers too?

U have forgotten the equipment cost, tho some may have owned the equip but who's paying for the maintenance and repair at the end of the day? :(

I usually charge about $800 for 2 HDV multicam setup at place like SCH and VCH but for such price, people really can't expect things like audio feed from mixer
