Preferred film for street photography (available light)

What B&W film is preferred for street photography?

I use Rollei Retro 400 and Ilford Delta 400. Also like the Tri-X.

Been out of sg for awhile.. how easy is it to find Tri-X and Delta 400 nowadays?

tri-x is readily available at ruby not sure about delta 400 coz i've never used it before..:)

you know.. all of a sudden i prefer cheap color film and digital bw conversions... hurhur.

Love this film. Where in Singapore do you get your Neopan 1600s ? I had to get mine overseas sometime ago, but now need to replenish.

Tri-X is great too, my favorite daytime film, available everywhere, gritty looks so appropriate for street images, sharp. Ilford Delta 400 smoother, seems not always available, Ruby seems to bring in only a few at a time, and only a few buy them (but these few buy everything !).

Same here! (:
Relatively 'fine' grain at ISO 1600 developed in T-max developer.
I think the FP4 is better for contrast, but it's only ISO 125. Never tried pushing it

i got my neopan 1600 at colourlab @ adelphi.

Oh, thanks, will check it out, they didn't have it sometime back so I never bothered to check ... (update Apr 16, 2009 - not my luck, Colourlab sold out)

I got mine from here, Super Presto 1600 Neopan:

- that's about $9 each (including shipping), hope it will be cheaper here.

Looks like Centuria is back too:

Do you guys develop your B&W films yourself and scan it into digital images? Guess it's economical and self-satisfying! I used to do it but now no time...:(

i prefer tri-x.

anyone shoots the 400cn?

rollei retro 100/400 (in hc110 or rodinal) or 160T under exposed then pushed (in tetenal)

Yep, am the laziest of the lot. Scanning the film already damn shag, not to mention the processing.... So ya.....

Kodak BW400CN & Ilford XP2 works fantastic for me ;)

Same here. Rather use C-41 B&W films..

Definitely Tri-X for the vesatility. Pushable to EI3200, nice grain--film for the street photography purist. :p

wa, old thread come up!

Ok, I have to take back my words a year ago, Tri-X rocks! Not going back to C41 B&W anymore ;)

Tri-X for its price and its 'Push' ability :)
HP5 for its contrast
Delta 400 for everything except price :)

How much is Delta 400 ah?

My Tri-X cost me about $3+ per roll.

Use bulk roll, 100 feet Tri-X, only $62 or $64, rolls 19 1/2 rolls each with 35-36 exposures.
Normal Tri-X is about $5+? 19 rolls already $90++

Wah! Your bulk roll price is
I dont shoot that much, so bulk rolling not that crucial for me, but I may just start it looking at your price.

Tri X $5.00/Roll now.
Delta 400 $6.50 (I think, or $6.00) / Roll
HP 5 $5.50/Roll

I wanna try to buy Delta 400 bulk roll, so far havent had the chance.

I did previously had Delta 100 bulk roll,$70++ but that was way back.

Lol! Buy the bulk roll, go to chiif shop & burrow the loader, got si fu to teach you there, on the spot can roll 19 rolls but bring your own canisters!

You can buy the bulk loaders on ebay la, the vintage ones quite cheap. Just search "bulk loader" under cameras
