I gaffered my lens already; you won't be able to see the peeling. ;)

Aha.... Thanks !....... Heh.... mebbe that's something I need to learn 2 years down the road....

I have tried my hands on all three brands, and if I have to choose one, I will go with the Tokina. Reason being their tought as a tank built, good lens coating and less compatibilty issue.

To be fair, I would says Tamron are good as well with good optics in general. The only minor drawback would be the built is not as solid as the other two.

Sigma has fantastic range of lenses, unmatch by the other two here. But among its range some are real gems while others sucks. I am also a little apprehensive with their lens coating and compatibility issues.

Hoho my Sigma 100-300 f/4 is skinless. :bsmilie:

Skinless or naked? :bigeyes::bsmilie:

On a more serious note:

If peeling is the only problem, that is a minor one IMO. Just gaffer it up la, but remember to maintain/change it every 6months or so.

There could be other major problems like sticking aperture blades, HSM failure, zoom ring jaming or other catastrophic problems. But so far, I have not heard of any major problem with Sigma lenses.

yea, guess yr right, the aesthetics of the lens mean little to photography :)

you serious? have you never ever heard of their compatibility issues and re-chipping issues?

of the big 3 third party companies, sigma is the only one to exhibit such problems. :thumbsd:

Definitely TAMRON anytime over Sigma.
Had previously owned Sigma 10-20 and not sold by the IQ and EX coating.
Have yet tried Tokina despite raved reviews about its metallic built.

Sadly, distributor of TAMRON has not been too active here.
Love my 17-50 f2.8, going for another TAMRON soon!!!!

Of course Nikkors are the best!!!
But there is only so much moolah that I have...
I can sacrifice a tad of IQ for a relatively close experience.

TAMRON FOR THE WIN!!

haha, yea :)
Have yet to be disappointed by my 17-50 ;p

That's weird. I love the Sigma 10-20, and I love the Tamron 17-50mm. Ha!

Nikkor 1st for me, but since $ not much, any 3rd party as long it's reliable.

I voted Sigma. Both Tammy and Siggy have good lenses for different range. In the end, Siggy having an active service center locally wins it for me.

Seems like Sigma is a preferred brand....may i know which sigma is a good replacement for my 18-55mm kit lens canon 1000d?

Without a second thought!!!

18-50 f2.8 DC HSM Macro :)

Oh! you mean "Catastrophic Problems" not major enough for you :o :bsmilie:

Why do u prefer Sigma?

Bro, Its HSM Macro that means silent fast AF + Macro is decent... not a 1:1 macro but quite good :)

On the other hand, its build quality is quite good compared to Tamron also.

Both are f2.8 though!
