Anybody can enlighten what's the difference between powershot series and IXUS series? Which one is more suitable for somebody who is contented with P&S, and mainly use the photos on webpages.

Thanks alot! :bsmilie:

powershot series have a lot of so call sub series also

Powershot A series (except A300/310 blah blah blah) the lowest end of the powershot
but have a lot of function like a prosumer DC like TV/AV M mode blah blah blah
Powershot S seires 1 class higher than A series , main different i knew is it support Type 2 CF and RAW file
Powershot G series again 1 class hight than S series, prosumer class

ok basically i think powershot series is better than ixus series on the manual, semi-manual mode like TV/AV, scenery mode(good for beginner) but ixus series is small and compact (well its only selling point of ixus of ya so stylish)

I'm looking at 1600*1200 resolution pictures... but I want to know which series gives good image quality?

am I right to sort it this way?

powershot A series < IXUS < powershot S series < powershot G series

What determines image quality? is it the lens? or the processor?

anyone can list out the lens and image processors for the above series?

I kinda like a powerpack P & S digicam cos its easy to carry... but I'll also like it to be powerful.... any particular model to recommend?

the image quality of the Ixus is arguably better than Powershot A series.

i beg to differ, i used all the series expect the S series can i can say the ixus image quality is the worst of the A or G series.

so even the more expensive IXUS 400 is inferior to the A series... say.. A40 ah? :what:

i never used the A40 so cannot comment, its not a downright comparsion my friend, see your other thread, go and test it lar!

IXUS is selling its size rather than image quality so paying more for a Ixus will not give you better image quality but smaller size of the camera

Image Quality : G>S>A>Ixus (of cos you cant compare a Ixus 400 with A40 right ..... Ixus 430 and A80 both 4MP camera but A80 have a better quality picture than Ixus 430, one reason is it has many manual mode function that you can play with to achive better photo)
Size : Ixus > S? (i feel it smaller than A) > A > G

You right on the size thing. The image quality between those cameras will differ due to the different characteristics of the cameras itself. The photographer also plays a key part in the perfect shot.
If size matters to you get the IXUS series.

I dun think it's right to compare IXUS and Powershot image quality.
They are catered for different category of consumers altogether.

If you really wanna compare...
First, decide on the size, then u settle for either IXUS or powershot....
Then you talk abt image quality, manual functionality etc...
Do NOT compare indiv IXUS models with Powershot models.
You will get nowhere....

IMHO

Size: Ixus, Axxx, Sxx, Axx, Gx (smallest first)

Image quality: (Gx/Axx), (Sxx/Ixus/Axxx) (best first)

The A10/20/..../80 series has a great lens.
Even better than the S10/20.../60/... series

Ken Rockwell reckons it is the best P&S around. (www.kenrockwell.com) - yes I know he has strong views ....

huh?
so some of u feels that the S series is larger than A?
then the image of A series is better than that of S?
Then why did the S series EVEN exist?

Tell me...me want to buy a S60....should i buy?

I was aiming for S60... cos I thought its superior than the A series.... now I'm targetting A80 ...

hm i think S series is better than A series
1. it support RAW format
2. it have a 28mm wide angle lens (ok this only apply to S60/S70)
3. to me it seem smaller (erm i admit i did not hold it before ;p)

forgot how much is S60 in Singapore
but if the gap is within $100 i will go for S60 than A95

i think the gap is about $250 -$300 difference.

S60 is $775 at alan photo.
anyone can tell me the price of A95?

Seriously stuck between this two. I want the built in wide angle of S60...but if A95 is more value for money and has better image quality, i might go for it.
