PowerShot S90! users.. Come In!!

ya lor so sad... I thot S90 is Powershot, how come they give Ixus? I dun like!!! haha however I brought the S90 Leather Case. the SD is Class 4...

well it is a freebies cannot expect too much.

As per their explaination, this casing is meant for both Ixus & Powershot series. However, they felt that it wouldn't look nice with both models on the tag. After using it for a while, it isn't too bad....it just smells only. Ya the leather case is nice and they made it specially for sale, so now I dont tink anybody actually got that as a freebie:bsmilie:

Where to buy this leather case ah? =X

To the post above asking abt how to DIY a grip, my very simple and down to earth solution will be to gaffer tape the part where i will grip most often. =X Or, you can source for those anti-slip grip stickers and stick it on to the camera. =)

yup...guessed as much. After using the camera for a bit, I believe the handling will be better improved with the raised custom grip ;p

Canon Shop in Harbourfront, U wun miss it or ask the staff, they claim only have 1 leather case for S90 at $39.

Good luck to your purchase.

Wahhhh HBF! Far leh! >.<

Thanks for the info btw!

u must check that when the camera play back, raw + jpeg is display at the bottom left... not all mode can store raw + jpeg... auto mode u cant... u got to set the capture in raw + jpeg in 2 locations... go and read the manual... i dnt store in raw mode... only 25% of image can stored in 8GB card... damn waste space... :p

hi all, my setting in manual mode is set to RAW + JPEG but i do not know how to import it using DPP~
It's frustrating me big time!

do u see raw n jpeg logo at e bottom of e screen when u review e pictures in ur camera..
If yes, then plug out e memory card n copy all e files into a folder in ur pc..
Then open dpp n point it into tat folder.. Then raw file will hv a raw logo n jpg file will hv a jpg logo.. Bascially u will see 2 same file side by side..

U must see raw n jpeg logo at e btm of e screen when u view e file in cam.. If no.. No raw is stored.. Must read e manual deeper.. 2 settings u must chose..

I dnt bother to make raw file.. Keke.. Cos eat up memory card faster than i can make pictures..

ok i got it... like FINALLY...
silly of me to actually miss the RAW image quality..
WHY DID CANON HAVE TO "HIDE" it in the last option anyway?!
Thanks everyone anyway...loving my camera even more

Just a quick question, was toying with my friend's Powershot S90. It's unable to shoot in B&W for RAW format?

I havnt tried raw on B&W, but usually Raw format will obtained all information including while using B&W. another word, U might see B&W on camera but when Download to PC, it will become Colour. otherwise no reason to save as raw if there isnt if u do not want the colour detail.

I prefer to view it as B&W on my LCD screen so that it's easier for me to grasp the exposure, then work on my PP in raw. Hehe :)

Just wondering how come it's not possible on the S90..

Not to bring up more technical stuff but bottom line, the S90 takes great photos and without flash! Took some shots of the Lamborghini at Resorts World and i think it looks great. What do you think?

I have an S90 - I find that the ISO shoots up to 800 when I don't want it to be so high as it often results in overblown images. Not to mention the control ring.

My G10 is smarter capping the ISO at 400 but facial features in portraits are not as sharp as S90. I recenlty purchased a GF1, it's pretty smart too capping the ISO at 400. On as side note: I am quite surprised the S90 with IS has less motion blur than GF1 with f1.7 lens. Also the GF1 tend to underexpose in portrait mode under low light - my wife look dark most of the time. Canon tends to brighten skin tone in portrait mode - which is nicer.

I recently found a mode in the S90 that not only caps the ISO at 400 - it also solve the problem of the rear ring from bumping the ISO as well as Exposure compensation.

Use the Portrait in SCN mode!! The rear ring is now in SCN mode instead of ISO or Exposure. And won't mess up the photos! NO more noisy over exposed photos.

I use it all the time now as my automode - now I love S90 after hating it for 2 months after purchase!!

Some comparisions:
1) Easiest camera to use that never goes wrong - G10. Low light results in motion blur. But used with flash is perfect! Macro power with 15MP is number 1. Excellent menu.

2) S90 is wonderful. It is very sharp in low light with it's IS. But the control ring messes up quite a bit and ISO jumps to ISO800 adding noise and overposure.

3) GF1 is extremely smart like G10 too but Canon has slightly better menu control - I have to enter deep into GF1 menu to control flash power - unless someone tells me how. GF1 Underexposes skin tone in low light, my wife looks dark. However I like GF1 for its speed and bokeh. It is an excellent camera but changing lenses is not my cup of tea. I try to stick to the 20mm lens only. Also the Flash recharge cycle is fast. Did you know Canon flash cycle of S90 and G10 is 10 sec? Not acceptable for Prosumer in my book.

Sorry I ended up writing a review here. The thing I wanted to share was how to cap the ISO at 400 in auto mode for the S90 and disable the rear ring from messing up exposures.

Hey! Anyone just got their S90? Care to update price?

And also, i'm interested in getting the grip, is it on sale in Singapore, or i have to ship it over?

How much u get it for?
The price is quite sticky in Amazon @ converted rate of SGD560. Was thinking if I shld get it in HKG, or during IT fair?

I just sold my Canon system and waiting for this! =D

nope, i sold it for good. perhaps i might get it back in the future.

i sold it to fund for my 7D purchase. after that i am going to eat grass for the next few months.

Did you sell if and buy another compact? Or you sold it for good?

Where is the best place to get it?
Does Best Denki or Challenger sell it?
