Powershot S3 IS

just wondering if you guys have S3IS as a back up camera or this is your primary camera. Im a newbie and recently bought a s3, been using manual, aperture/shutter priority most of the time, and now i feel like, im wanting a dslr, coz im starting to feel i have no full control, and unsatisfied with my pics when compared to pics taken with dslr...

or maybe its just me.

I feel that a decent point & shoot camera like the Canon Sx series, in the hands of a competent cameraman, is worth far more than a dSLR in the hands of someone who does not know how to use the camera. You only need to look at the photos taken in the S1/2/3 thread.

yeah i strongly agree. i love my S3IS but I dont think I can stay long using this.

So, my doubt is all of the bayonet mount and metal adapter are like that not solid fitting
(can feel as loose and heard loosing sound).?????

I just got from Alan Photo (funan) branch a metal Lens Adaptor (58mm, metal) @ $35.
It fits quite nicely on the S5 using bayonet mount. You may want to bring your camera down to try it out.

Well, i checked again when i got home. Mine is also not 'tight fit', there is still abit of play (about 1mm) when i rotate the adaptor when mounted on the lens.

I guess if it is really tight fit, it will increase wear on the release mechanism.

i pasted a thin sticker (3M) for all my tubes (even the original tube adapter still not tight fit). now all are tight fit (and if something is worn out, its the sticker, not the mount).

The S3's close-up feature is already quite impressive. As for landscapes, i suggest a wide conversion lens.

U can try places such as CP, AP or Bally Photo. I got mine from Bally Photo @ Funan for my S5 IS, only $180.

hi any idea if i should get a 52mm adapter or a 58mm adapter for the S3. I recently say mcgill selling a 52mm adapter with cpl filter for $75 is the price ok or should i go to the places you guys recommended to get a better price. Hoping to get a teleconvertor lens in the near future as well.

Canon produced a underwater case for the Powershot S1 IS and stopped there. No Canon case for S2, S3 and now S5.

I bought the Canon underwater case for the S1. While it is good to use, I rarely had the chance to use it. Unless you take underwater shots all the time and are prepared to leave the S5 in the case most of the time, I think you might be better off getting a small underwater camera.

As for the compatible cases, I think they are very expensive, unless you buy the plastic bag types.
