I understand there are 2 types of Lens Adapter, the 52 and 58mm. But you were saying that vignetting do not occur on the 52mm adapter and if it does, its probably on the 58mm adapter.....but to what I understand, the bigger the thread size, the less likely of vignetting due to geometry, as bigger filter doesn't block light coming into the lens....:)

TIA=Thanks In Advance.;)

Hmm...I got the raynox 52mm adapter which I usually will put a UV filter infront of it to protect the lens (sometimes I put the polarizer infront without the UV filter). But when I mount the 6600, it will vignett at full wide.

Is it normal? Or everyone who uses the 6600 with filters will have this problem?

Hi, with DCR6600Pro, you can't use the inbuilt flash, use a slave flash instead.....

Hi Swing123,

I know Canon got this slave flash for this camera. But I am thinking of using those swivel-able type flashes. But I need to get a bracket to mount it.

Anyway the flash on the S3IS does expose the subject not to what I want though. The only way is to diffuse the flash but how to go about doing it?:dunno:

Pardon me if I'm asking the wrong question here.

Anyone selling their S3IS with accessories? Preferably with warranty and good condition. Please PM me to quote. Many thanks all.

just got the S3, rekindling my interest in photography. Got it for $620 inclusive of gst at Alan Photo, same price at cathay photo. Standard package + 2gb kingston sd card + gp 2300 battery charger/4batteries

anyone knows if lumix FZ8 is better or canon s3?
went to alan photo today the guy suggested fz8.
im new so wanna understand and know the difference :embrass:

i think that the difference between the cir and the linear is that the linear only works at fixed angles which the circular can be adjusted to suit your angle.

Both need to be rotated to see the polarising effect. Linear and circualr do not refer to the actual construction of the fitlers.

For any SLR, dSLR or other through the lens metering/autofocus system you need a circular polariser (CP). This is due to the way the mirrors work in the cameras.

For cameras like ours, a linear polariser is good enough. I ended up getting a CP, since I will be able to use it on any camera.

Hi Cerebus

I have a S3IS and the Raynox 6600 Wide Angle. I am thinking of getting a polariser for this WA. Can you advise the model for the polariser and cost? MS Color, TK Foto, .....would have this polariser I guess???
Hi I am currently using a polariser. But the problem is that it will cause vignetting at the corners at full wide.

The 6600 has a 72mm filter. You will need to get a thin polariser to prevent vignetting. Most of the shops carry them. They are not cheap though. If you can afford it and it does not cause vignetting, get the bigger 77mm one, then use a thin step down ring. this way you can use your larger polariser on almost any lens.

One question, which version of the lens do you have? The 58mm or 52mm one? The 52mm version is supposed to be better then the 58 one, images are slightly sharper.

Btw, do you experience a shadow underneath your photo if you use the flash indoors/outdoors with the 6600 attached?

You will get a shadow, due to the WC blocking the flash. Either get a slave flash or something to diffuse the flash. I am using this at the moment (the first one).

Any pictures to share with the DCR 1540? I am thinking on getting one too.

Regards :)

You might want to look at this thread. The moon was at full zoom, 665mm. Jim is using two of these pictures on his site.

It is quite a good lens! I bought the black Raynox 52mm adapter to go with it.

I have owned and/or used Canon S1 to S3, and I find them excellent cameras, especially for family use. I have not used the FZ8 but I am sure it should be comparable. You can look up www.dpreview.com and read the reviews on both cameras. You can also read the messages in dpreview forum but the messages tend to be a little biased depending on whether you are in Canon or Panasonic forum.

For me, I will choose the Canon over the Panasonic because of:-

1. Swivel LCD screen
2. Uses AAs
3. Burst shots on FZ8 limited to 5 or 7 shots
4. Zoom during video and photo in video only on S3

However, the FZ8 has RAW mode, which though not useful to me, maybe useful to some people.

You should also note that the S5 IS (S3 successor) has already been announced and should be on sale the second half of this year. The improvements are not all that great but the latest Digic III is used, and they added a hotshoe.

It all depends what is your emphasis in photo-taking. I have tried both, honestly, I was torn between these two. Since tks has stated the advantages of the S3, I'd go over to the FZ8.

Yes, the LCD on the Lumix is both brighter and bigger than the S3, and thus more usable (especially you have failing eyesight like mine!) and the EVF on the FZ8 is also much clearer. Try it both and you can really see the difference. Usability I would rate the FZ8 menu to be more user-friendly, though this may be subjective. Video capturing has to go to the S3 though, with zoom enabled. You also can use RAW in the FZ8, which rightly put, it's up to the individual whether is this useful. And lastly, it is lighter than S3 but feels more well-built (the buttons on S3 have a slightly "loose" feeling).

Both are easy to use and returns pretty good images. But with the arrival of S5, why not you put a hold to your decision and see if this suits you better? :)

Like Cerebus, i too own the S2 and I also have the DCR-6600 52mm WA lens from Raynox. I have been so busy at work that I hardly have a chance to play with the cam much. I am now thinking of the S5IS.

If anyone wants to take over the S2, can call me privately.

Cheers....

Hey! Long time no see.

I too am thinking of upgrading to the S5IS, if its noise profile is similar to the S3IS.

Hope to start posting back here soon...

changed job recently, so will need to slowly touch the cam again...

Hi i'm jueyi, currently an s3 user. I like the cam so far. I'm now using a wide angle lens raynox 6600 pro. I'm currently looking into the abilty to take nice photos of scenery. I'm very interested in the use of filters. Could i have anyone explain to me the use of different filters? polarizers? I'm particularly interested in taking photos of nice sunsets etc.

Thanks a million.

Depending on what you want. A polariser is used to defuse the light so that you can take pics of water without the reflection and the sunset/sunrise too. Bit hard to explain in layman's term, but if you go here, they might give a better idea.

Some queries.

I was unable to get those blurred background pics.
I'm in aperture mode but at every f stop, i wasnt able to get the blurred background.
How to i focus just on say a object 30cm away and the other stuff to stay un-focus on a S3?

Another thing, i'm going overseas and would like to take some nice sceneries.
Will be going tibet and there be lots of mountain and i believe sunshine.
What equipment do i need? A WA lens add-on? tripod?

Will be getting a Crumpler 7 million dollar home, so i can add accesories.

If i were to get a WA lens, i need a adapter too right? whats the cost to add such stuff?

Sorry, as there's 60+ pages and i dont have time to view all of them.
