Eh was browsing around den saw this.

Me too gotten the S3 from AL at 719 . BUT BUT do you guys have this iritating "yeeeeee" sound when switching off. Went home then found out. The sound comes from the lens retracting.
The lens coming out its slient but retracting got "yeeeeee" sound.
Hope somebody can give me a peace of mind whether isit standard or will canon change one for me. If canon were to tell me that they need to open and lubricate, I will tell them off, because manufact from scratch will definitely seamlessly lasting and accurate than any BEST technician attempt to Dismantle.
Will only visit tomoro Sat but my worries cant wait. I only bought on this Tuesday.

Not sure if you would be happy or sad to hear this... but I have never had the "yeeee" sound you mentioned with my S3. Go to the service centre and try to insist on a replacement on the basis that this is a manufacturing defect

Think you better do it within 7 days for better chance of getting a replacement...
Lastbolt, ermz... any idea does canon repair poor focusing? Been shooting a few days between days and night. I realised sometimes, its so hard to have a proper focus. The image is quite blur. At night time, its quite jia lak. Long distance zoom gives poor focusing. Using 400ISO gives me quite noisy picture liao.
Do you have this problem?:dunno:

Hi ryuggen, I think it is better for you to test out thoroughly....blur/soft pic can be due to a few factors:
1. Handshake (mitigate with a tripod)
2. Moving subject (mitigate with a static subject)
3. Out Of Focus, OOF (which is what you 1 2 proof)
Think you should try to shoot with the mitigation in place and in places no dark and non-shinny or low contrast subject. If the prob is still there, then you have a case with Canon....hope this helps. But this is just my thoughts, anyone else has any other idea??

I think all cameras have this prob of focusing in poor lightning. The flash icon flashing on the LCD will keep flashing and the camera feels like it is hang u press the shutter button rite ?
I got this prob with my S3IS, nikon coolpix 3700. I oso experience this when using other ppl's canon 20D and 350D when not using flash.
yup, the focus is like... quite bad. Ocassionally, i cant even focus on indoor shots with bright lights. I'm still trying to figure out what are the factors for poor focus(very poor!) on the S3IS. Then maybe i'll have a case, like what lastboltnut said.
Another matter is the aperture prioirty mode. Anyone having problem with the auto shutter speed thing? It seems to give me a constant 1 second in poor lighting places. It just wont surpass 1s.

Glad that I went to CANON yesterday. its manufact, they suggest to go back to AL and change one. And AL did change one for me. That set will be sent back to canon via their own verification.
Good. This my third cam with AL Photo. no pushy tricks here.
Shall explore more on the IS.
Regarding focusing part.... if auto cant do the job, manual focus is the way man... Trust our own eyes for some satisfaction. Work on that should be fine. Make sure the IS is continous and use tripod if low speed shutter. It will turn out fine.

when u first use the flash after u power on, the flash icon will blink becoz the flash is charging up...
