well i guess the 70-300 is a much worthy buy if u mainly shoot in zoo or jbp cos the 200mm isnt really enough.

Thanks a lot to everyone...I just bought 70-300VR and came back home....Haven 't started shooting yet...Too excited...Guys now I need to know which nikon potrait lens is good...is it 50mm f1/1.8D for D60 or any other recommendation...
Many thanks

50mm 1.8D wont be able to autofocus on ur D60 body as it doesnt have built-in focusing motor.

Get a 17-55mm 2.8 AFS Nikor VR with peace of mind for Portrait shots. Tamron got so much back and front focusing issues.

potrait can take a look at the Tamron 17-50, nikkor 50 or 85 :)

wow* have fun using it! :D

As for portrait, it depends

for head/torso shots, i'd use my 70-200mm or my 105mm

for full body shots, definitely the Tamron 17-50mm ;p

it really depends on what working distance you are looking for or comfortable with as well as the creaminess of the bokeh you are looking for...

generally for portraits the recommended range is 85mm to 135mm

actually your 70-300mm VR can be used for portrait but you are likely to get more head/shoulder shots than 1/2, 3/4 or full body...

however, if you willingly to stand rather far away, you still can get full body shots with your 70-300mm VR but you would have to do a bit of shouting to direct your subject :bsmilie:

also if you really want very creamy bokeh then the recommended lenses are the prime 85mm f1.4 and 70-200mm f2.8 VR... but the cheaper 85mm f1.8 is not bad too just a little less creamy smooth bokeh...

the 50mm f1.4 and f1.8 are not bad too but you lose the compression factor of a tele lens like the 85mm or the 70-200mm f2.8 VR which is rather good for portraits use...

but if on a budget, then the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 might not be a bad choice but do be aware that Tamron does have front or back focusing issues and the QCC is not consistent all the time... so make sure you bring along a text chart to check for front or back focusing problems before you buy...

oh btw... if you have the money check out the Nikkor 105 DC f2 or 135mm DC f2... they are allow you to control your OOF/bokeh... generally the 105 is better....

Wow.

LOoks like you will have great fun with the 70~300mm. Go walk around in Chinatown with this... You are bound to get portrait shots.

If you still want a portrait lens.... My best bet is that the 70~300mm is still pretty decent. In studios, people use f8~f11 for portrait shot. Plenty of light in the studio...

However... if you are not in a studio... I would not recommend anything less/bigger than f2.8.

Indoor HDB, 17~55mm f/2.8 would get you pretty decent portrait shots.

Want a prime... for u.. I think go for the SIgma 30mm f/1.4 HSM. or the AFS 50mm f/1.4.

Else... stick to your kit lens... Should give you decent portrait shots. Photography is about making use of light and metering at the correct spot for light.....

Don't buy until you are competent with what you have now...

I shoot with D80, 18~200mm during the day and it works fine for all types of shot. I use my bigger 'guns' and body when I shoot events or competitions.

HAppy shooting!

Andrew

I recommend you sell the one with warranty and receipt so can fetch a decent price. If ur bro's one comes with all that, can even sell as brandnew. Post it on the nikon marketplace forum. PM me if you wanna sell one, let me know the price, as well as any warranty or receipts. Cheers
