hahaa.. too much of a good thing is bad I guess..

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude... I am sure you can control the intensity of bokeh here.

The shot of the model is really not bad, plus she is quite natural in her posing. Was only referring to the background......

Looking just at the beauty of bokeh produced, though subjective, will always be, I'd say...

I would consider this nice...

I would consider this as no bokeh, just shallow depth-of-field.

I'm sorry, I don't understand why the second pic has no bokeh. Coz from what I understand,
BOKEH refers to the out of focus blur which is often the result of SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD.

BOKEH does not only refers to the circular dots coming from light sources. and if we are talking about quality of bokeh, a good bokeh should be smooth and pleasing to the eye. not harsh and distracting shapes.

SO in my opinion, the bokeh of the Dog is definitely more pleasing. The one with the girl and the million blue dots...... just plain distracting.

Bokeh refers to the aesthetic quality of the way a lens renders out-of-focus points of light. Shallow DOF is the method (for the lack of word) to get bokeh popping out and would depend on the image shot. Like the dog, no bokeh, it's simply just a shot that shows very shallow DOF. On the other hand, the many-purple-lights shot shows the bokeh, which again is the out-of-focus points of light, which in this case are the purple LEDs.

Part of the reason people spend on lenses like 50L is for having pleasing circular bokeh as opposed to the f/1.8. Both can certainly give very shallow DOF results but they produce different quality of bokeh. There are harsh bokeh, there are pleasing bokeh. But again, Bokeh is NOT simply something that is OOF.

Some pictures in this thread seems over processed with too much sharpening
