Dear all, the results of the Acid Test are out!!! *drum rooooooolllll*

Test samples
1) My tape
2) Scotch tape
3) HPLC grade chloroform
4) DI water

The tapes(~1 to 3g) are dissolved in 3ml chloroform in 55degress celcius over one entire week. from 27/01/2006 to 03/02/2006. Control of chloroform and DI water was also heated for the same period.

On the 3rd of Feb. Water extraction done on all chloroform samples. Ph was tested using universal indicator ph test strip. Results as follows.

Hence it can be see that 'everything' is acidic, down to the water you drink, the air you breathe, as carbon mono/dioxide in the air already makes everything the ph of 6.0 to 6.5. Hence I conclude that if there's any acid in my tape, it is at the most 6.0.

I've already ordered a box (400 rolls), will keep at least 20 rolls for myself. I shall wait till wednesday 8th feb for people to increase or remove their orders based on my findings. As prices are not high, I shall trust CS'sers and not demand bank transfers before meeting up.

Please amend the list carefully if you're doing so.

Anyone who wants to do ph-test on their paper/glue/tape, we can work things out!

easy the fifith row from the bottom is the indicator to show how acidic is the liquid it was in.

Looks like all the above test subjects are yellow or strong yellow. More or less they are PH 5~6 . but i wonder has the owner used a tape claiming to be acid to be run in this test. if the results are the same then we should be safe.

I do not have tape that's labelled 'acid'. I guess there's no tape-maker in the world would claim that. Yes, scotch tape yielded similar PH as my sample. Those 3M or Elmber's acid-free tapes may yield the same as well, as even DI WATER yielded the same result. My sampe is supposed to be 'photo-safe'. Believe it or not it's up to you. I'm using on my own albums. I do not have the time nor have the effort to buy several types of tape on the market to do the test. At the end of the day, one will have to take care of one's albums against UV, air and moisture for best longetivity.

I'm proceeding ahead with getting the 1st box of 400 rolls. Will do a collection probably this thurs/fri ~ fireworks/merlion area. When the first box runs low, I'll order the 2nd box.

First collection:
Thurs 7th Feb 2006: 935pm. Somewhere near Merlion's Butt. This would be right after the fireworks. It'll might be chaotic if I put it at 9pm.

2nd collection
Fri 8th Feb 2006: Same time/place as first collection.

Zeroth collection: If I can collect the tapes by today or tomorrow, will do the Merlion tomorrow evening as well.

3rd collection: Depending on the response for the first collections. I stay in Macpherson, may organise one around there, one at Aljunied MRT, one ~ city hall area.

The first 400rolls will have piority on the first collection. Subsequent batches may come in 100 rolls, so we'll wait and see.
