Portrait of Cui

her eyes is very nice, but her face,, maybe white balance could be nicer too

Actually what i find out is if i edit pics in photoshop, everything seems quite neutral, but after i saved as jpg (all in sRGB), i found it's quite redish from what i can c in window's image viewer program. So i have to add a Cyan filter (10-25%) when i convert jpeg, and then it becomes neutral in the image viewer. Don't know whether that's the reason which caused the WB problem?

There's nv noob comments in my dictionary as long as they are reasonable. To answer your question, actually my confusion for the postprocessing regarding to these several pics is from the histogram i can c they are underexposed, but once i adjust the levels, the highlight portion is overexposed, that may be the reason why you feel the eyebags and the swollen face too obvious due to it's high contrast with the other portions. ;(
But due to human face anatomy structure, the "swollen" part should be there when she grins.

Thank you for your comments

sorry to ask this now narloke, but what is ur intend of showing these few pix? is it a challenge of the "standard ideal" portraiture? or is it to celebrate the "standard ideal"? both are not wrong, it's a method of approach.

Still confused about how you define the "standard ideal" portraiture..:embrass:

I think it is just a matter of personal preference.
Actually she got a very beautiful eyes, she is very beautiful.

Actually I've enjoyed narloke's pictures, even though they're not all my cup of tea
they're not typically what you assume to be pretty pictures but they are sincere pictures and if someone is consistently posting up pictures which you hate then maybe you should consider that there's something that's worthwhile and interesting in the photos that the photographer is aware of

Dunno how come i missed this post. Must be coz you have so many of her pics :bsmilie:
I quite like this actually, simple and clean. Nice eyelashes to boot.

i like this. it has a fresh feel to it.

narloke, you have a lack of artistic pride.fancy you calling facts stupid.

the photos suck and thats the truth.

I get upset when other CSers behave like jackas*es. Please, if you don't have anything constructive to say don't say anything at all. The TS would accept all criticisms and inputs if they were legitimate and constructive. What you have posted just shows your pathetic level of maturity and the respect you have for other people who enjoy photography. Artistic direction can be interpreted in any number of ways and need not be subject to conformity. Artistic pride? What is that? Perhaps JediForce4ever(or damian) could enlighten the CS community.

Considering you are only 16, perhaps it would do you good in life to be wiser and keep your mouth shut. You have an awfully long way more to go.

This extends to others as well. Let's try to be more respectful to other CSers and try to help them instead of bash them. You guys know who you are.

dun bother about other said, the portrait is quite pretty, i like it.

I like this series and your treatment on the photos. The 'bleached' look is no accident and definitely not a case of WB being off despite what a small and probably ignorant minority thinks. For those who's been following narloke's series (since the shower accident) will know that this is his signature treatment.

I look forward to seeing more of your photos. :)

I think you have messed up with the lighting a bit.

Too bright and also does wrong things for the face.

Lovely looking girl. I hope you can re-do it again

I'm a big fan of number 1
I could imagine my girlfriend looking at me like that

I think the lighting is the best i can do till now with my little experience in studio lighting technique. What i personally not satisfied with is the difference in tones (cast) as a series.:embrass: Need to be more detailed in future...

Are you using an external Ring Flash?

Unless you're taking an ID photo, your lighting is first of all too flat which doesn't do her any favours. You might want to play around with the way you light her a little.

Beyond that, I think you need to communicate a little with your model as well. She doesn't seem to evoke any kind of emotional response from the viewer apart from "eww'.

You might want to seek help from a MUA if you're really interested in shooting her portrait properly. It certainly looks like you didn't put any effort in the shoot at all. No doubt that there are limitations as to what can be done in a hotel room but I'd take a look at other portraits for some ideas before shooting cause it ends up as a waste of time, memory space and effort.

Keep trying though and don't get discouraged.

Cheers!
