Agreed. I'm using 50L most of the time for portraiture.
My wife endorses the use of 50L to take photos of her, and says that is my only worth it purchase.. :-(
It really is an outstanding lens for portraits on FF and also a walk around lens, so 2-in-1!![]()

Bodhisattva said:My wife says it looks good on the 5d mk3. I thought so too.
No one uses the 100 macro L as a portraiture lens?
It looks gd on all FF cams though.
Your wife had good taste
That gives you more excuse to buy the 24L,35L,85L,135L .everything L la![]()
Already got the 24L/85L/135L
50mm on FF is a quick and dirty focal length that has little distortion. For travel holidays, 85mm and above takes too much time and puts too much distance, very ley chey. 50mm hits the spot for me.
If I used to use the 24L if I needed to take photos of her with wider background coverage, but the past >1 yr I have been using the 17mmL TSE lens to do that instead. A horizontal left shift allows you to put a subject on the right corners of the frame without distorting subject. ( of course it means the left side of frame is heavily stretched )

Hi, anyone tried or consider 70-200 f4? I trend to find the f2.8 really too heavy for long portrait session... Unless with a monopod
How do you like the 24L?

hmm not heavy at all.
used the non L version once for testing purpose. but i quite like this lens although i still prefer my 135mm.
Some complain it's too sharp before post processing... haha
i am newbie n i brought a 85mm f/1.8 to shoot in a studio. when i tried to take full body shots, i have to stand so far at the end of the room...so ma lu....i am tinking of getting 50mm to shoot in studio. i love the quality n quickness of 85mm lens, but for full portrait...abit difficult. abit stoopid to get 50mm if i have 85mm? on a budget by the way
