Portfolio Category?

Just wondering if there would be any interest in a portfolio category for pictures? As in, to have a diverse spread of work spanning different subjects/disciplines.

I know you can have a portfolio of work in a single subject, but let's forget that for the moment. But posts in this category could comprise, say, 5 pictures (since this is the normal maximum in a single post), with each picture coming from a different forum category.

Just an idea. Interest? And I'm specifically not making this a poll because I want to hear feedback as well, and not just yes/no answers.

Yes, I'd be. I just don't know whether there will be enough "sets of 5" to sustain... heh. but hey, we have got so many people with cool gear (and some even with German ones), so roll them in! :)

Yeah! Well, that's certainly an idea. It wouldn't be restricted to your best 5 images, but rather, anyone can submit different 5 images, as long as they satisfy the criteria (i.e. you can send more than once).

Idea is to try to get photographers to:
[1] Be more selective in their editing.
[2] Develop a more all-rounded approach to their photography, which is beneficial to your chosen area of speciality anyway.
[3] Learn to put a general portfolio together of complimentary images.
[4] Through the construction of such a portfolio, have better awareness of the strengths of different photographs, and therefore why certain photographs work and other don't, in putting together a range of work that showcase a photographer's strengths.

Its a great ideas Jed.....

I am in. But come to seriously picking up the good ones, maybe I can only contribute one or two:dunno:

btw, any need to criticize photos (be it publicly or secretly) to help the photographer improve and take better pics in the future, or just a display of one's favorite photos?

I dun have a portfolio right now.. What is a good print size for portfolio since we are on this topic..

8R?

I support you ALL THE WAY as I've posted similar train of thought in my "Photo of the Month" thread. :)

Would supplement that with critique on what's good or bad about it so that we can learn from it.

I'd think 8x10 or 8x12 at least, if not 10 x 15 or larger.

Hmm, sounding promising?

Founding members/powers that be, what say you?

It doesn't have to be good stuff Tom, just stuff that's representative of the work you, the individual photographer, are doing. After all that's what a portfolio is. I don't see how you'd have a great problem, I can see you fulfill the street and wildlife category easily enough. The idea is if you're struggling to get three more pictures, to go out and improve in those areas. Which as mentioned will only help you in the long term.

Real life portfolio. Completely depends on what you're doing. My real life wedding portfolio is an actual wedding album, prints from 3x4 to 8x8. And other portfolios are presented on 16x20 mounts, prints any size smaller really.

Sorry, missed this out completely.

Jed, would it be possible for you to collate the suggestions and post it in CP for us to see? I think it's a great idea, and definitely worthy of pursuing.

Agree with Jed's suggestion and the followup comments.

One thing that we may want to enforce may be up-front moderation of posts in this category, and stating very clearly what the objectives of the sub-forum will be (showcasing a range of the member's work).

So, a member may want to post 5, 10, 15, whatever pics with the appropriate information, but a moderator needs to vet thru them before releasing to public.
