Sony is big enough to buy over Nikon and Canon if they wanted to. And hey, maybe they've already done that (quietly) and that explains why they don't bother to make dSLRs under their own name.

Or maybe they're just waiting for the dSLRs to really mature, let Nikon/Canon/whoever fight it out until there's little left to R&D, then jump in and buy up the whole market like they did with Hollywood.

i find it strange that the biggest player in the camera market seems disinterested in the dSLR segment. i doubt Sony is really as nonchanlant as they make themselves out to be.

I actually prefer Sony to stick to it's current "non-DSLR" strategy... but more digicams that supports CF. F828 is the first... hope it will not be the last. Cuz no matter how big Sony is, it still can't compete with the combined might of "common standards".. lesson learnt such that they introduce CF in 828.

There are a few improvements that they can put into their cam -F828 (if they want to)... my wish list...

1. Advance IS (equivilant to Canon's 3rd generation IS)
2. Larger "smart buffers" and faster write speeds (something like D2H)
3. Use large LCD like those used in T1, pretty useable with backlight off (save battery)
4. Bigger sensors at 8 - 12 MP using 4/3 or APS-H size.(more dynamic range as well)
5. Wider and longer lens 15-200mm. (like 12x Lumix BUT using internal focusing) with 2x extender available and 3cm macro mode at whole range.
6. "1-touch" access to frequently used functions. (simplicity like Lieca)

 :vhappy: :cheergal:

PS: after reviewing my own post.. it seemed ALL cam makers do have their respective lead areas.

On the topic of Sony W1, the P100 has the same specs (& lens) as the W1, only physically different.

I think Sony's current size is totally unable to buy over Canon. Where did you get the info that it is that big?
Similarly, though Toyota is JP's biggest car maker, i don't think it is able to buy over Nissan.

Sony buys Nikon, should be ok.

I did a search at Forbes. Canon actually has made 1.61 bil in profits vs Sony's 0.98 bil for last yr. But Sony is ranked higher due to Assets.

hahah....brudder, even if you paid 10k for this kind of lens, it will still be low in optical quality. :D 15mm Ultra WA absolutely cannot mix with tele.

PS. Lumix 12X is actually pretty low in quality. And it isn't even very wide.
