I sucked when it comes to photoshop. But I just tried one step with the above photo. It is under image, adjustment, auto levels. The red cactus photo becomes like this:

while I can see the difference, I don't know whether in this case has auto-adjustment improved the pic?
For unsharp mask, try a smaller pixel radius, maybe 0.3 or 0.5, so that the pic won't look oversharpenedpop said:thanks, knox. auto-adjust sound like a good place for me to begin with, but now will go on to try unsharp mask next.![]()

what level of sharpening did u use, can try 200, pix radius 0.3, threshold 1. U should try unsharp mask after u resized the pic for the net, can see more difference in a smaller pic. I guess larger pic, u can try pix radius 1 or 1.5 bah ...pop said:haha, I don't have photographer's eyes. Apply unsharp mask on the auto adjusted pic, whether 1.0 or 0.5 radius, both look the same to me as the one without unsharping.

pop said:got, got difference now. earlier i used the default, 50%, threshold 0 but adjust radius to 0.5%, but if 200%, threshold 1, and radius 0.3%, can tell the diff now.
knoxknocks said:once you understand the general concept of USM, you can use a free plugin that can automate this sharpening process for you.
Try this one that I use frequently
