Poll: Will you get a grip for your new OM-D E-M5?

Will you get the optional grip?

Yes! To have it available should I want to use it, my other cameras benefitted from grips including an aftermarket grip for my E-510. Useful for shooting with the body vertical and also additional battery capacity, and for those of you saying it spoils the retro look a very similar looking winder / drive was offered for the OM series cameras, albeit for a different reason - it actually did advance the film and set the shutter.

Similar, since I started this thread, I have been spoiled by a grip (sold my EP3 for a G1 as backup while waiting for the EM5). Don't think I can use a cam without grip anymore. The ergonomics are simply fantastic.

Yes, two pieces are more flexible than one.

I think I need the hand grip more than the battry holder. Waiting to get one.

Me too. But I heard last time that they are sold as a pair and not separately. :(

Yup. It comes as a set n only works as a set. I thk
The batt holder needs the grip.

hv to get.

the sub-dial at the front is in a uncomfortable position for me.

I think you get use the grip w/o batt holder but not vice versa.

For me, I would get it mainly for the grip although a little costly.

If I'm to get one, it's mainly for the grip and not battery holder.

Come to think of it, putting into perspective, $300 for a plastic grip which also obstructs access to the battery is a little... Bad thinking on my part. Probably pass it it then. Will there be a 3rd party option soon like the HLD-5?

I think I'm suffering from OMD GAS.

Hahaha...exactly...we are in the same boat. I could not care less for the battery holder, at least for now. The battery is powderful enuff as it is and I do not need the bulk. But the grip, is nice.

Hopefully Phottix or similar brands will release 3rd party GRIP only at reasonable prices.

I will. as it comes with grips for both vertical and horizontal sections for firmer holding and steadier shooting.
However, inserting battery in camera involves removing horizontal section. To avoid this, I will use only one
battery in the grip and put the other in my pocket, instead of in the camera body. This helps to reduce the
total weight by a few oz.

That is a real pain. Maybe at least the top part of the grip should have an opening to access the battery door.

I won't as I want the compact feel of the camera. The grip kills the retro look

You never saw the OM-4Ti with the two piece grip? This one actually seems a better design.

This One is definitely a better design. Saw the OM-4 with grip and it just looks plain weird.

I have a HLD-6 battery grip. I find it very useful, but I don't have a second battery for it yet. :complain:

reminds me of nikon d300/s.
same thing, with the grip on, u cannot access the batt in the cam body...

voted no. not for now.

still cant see why i need a grip. maybe someday.
and the TS is right for posting not getting the grip because of the price, it is indeed a major factor to consider here. A grip is a grip and can hold an extra bat we all know that, but the price is a tad expensive imo.

why would u wanna access the batt in the cam body? i thot the grip can put battery? it will use the battery from the grip first wat.

You can set to use the battery in the grip or body first.

The grip is useful for heavier lens like the 100-300, 45/2.8, 25/1.4 and 7-14. The balance is quite bad if one uses the heavier lens in portrait position and/or with flash.
