Well, I live in Toronto near one of the busiest intersections (9 different bus routes). Occasionally I shoot in nature. I have no concerns.

That is assuring... thanks.

Its been a year, over 12mths of using the e500- warranty expired too. And have not visited the service centre for servicing or sensor cleaning. *touch wood* Maybe i've been shooting too often, the dust didnt had a chance to land on the sensor =)

owned e300 since Dec 04.
about 24 months and no servicing done.
so far so good and made no complaints.
I use it every weekend

My FL-36 bought last month from CP, this morning cannot power up. Changed batteries also cannot work. Looks like have to make a trip down to service centre on Monday.

This flash is almost new, luckily still within warranty. Only 20-30 shots so far, all bounced off ceiling at home. Want to try with the Stofen cannot work. Oly flashes so fragile meh?

1. Stofen Omnibounce will work well with the FL-36.
2. The FL-36 is hardy. I have abused mine a lot. It is unfortunate you got a lemon or it was damaged by rough handling during packing/shipping.

update after visiting the Oly centre:

It seems the FL-36 is very particular about the batteries fed into it. Half used alkalines or rechargeables that is aged will not be able to power up the FL-36. The same batteries can power my mp3 player, torch light and even my Nikon SB-600, but won't work with the FL-36.

Went to Eastgear and bought 4 Eneloop 2000mAh, now FL-36 happy, working fine.

kakaka..that FL-36 sure have class. Used and 2nd hand it won't accept. :bsmilie:

Just curious, why you gotten the eneloop and not the powerex2700?

Eneloop can hold its charge longer, very useful for standby in the drawer. At times when I need batteries fast, eneloops charged 3 months ago can still be used.

I also have some Powerex 2700s, I use those when I have a planned outing. Charge the night before for use the next day.

I have a friend who does food journalism. Spending hours inside a kitchen, or even out in the restaurant, changing lens now and then, inevitably left oil on his sensor. Now THAT is a nightmare.

He has since converted back to film.

Never cross mind about servicing. Even at de free oly intro class nobody mentioned about servicing...anyway did you pay or was it free......

free if under warranty for general servicing n CCD cleaning

Actually my option is not listed:
"Not at all, I look after my equipment so it never needs servicing!"

My last SLR I used for TWENTY YEARS, and it NEVER had a problem or fault, and never needed any repairs.

I used my C-700 for three years, and it too never had a problem, and still would be using it if I hadn't bought the E-300.

You read about some people, everything they own they break...one person has needed every digital camera they ever owned repaired.

As for the sticky dust pad, it's supposed to hold ten years worth of dust.

Since this old message has been brought back to life I thought I'd update my reply.

It's been two years, and my E-300 is still going strong without ever needing service...oh, I do take care of it, blow dust out of the mirror box, but other than that it's never seen a visit to Olympus.

However as I stated in another thread here when I bought my Open Box E-330 this past summer the store had left it on the shelf without either a lens or body cap on it...there was dust in the mirror box causing problems with the autofocus, since the autofocus sensor is at the bottom of the mirror box...again blowing out the mirror box with a manual blower (NOT canned air) did the trick, and now it works perfectly; if I had sent it to Olympus they would have done the same thing, and it would have cost me in shipping charges.

one of my friend holding E1 who poison me to buy E510 told me that he have not service since he bought E1 since 2005(that's why i was poisoned and bought that E510 due to him hahhaha). the trap dust compartment didn't fail him since. Anyway i choose to believe him for that matter, unless one fine day i still see dust patch that i cannot remove then i sent for servicing.

Me neither. I just take good care of it. I would certainly not take it into an Oly SC unless it developed a fault. If it aint broke don't mess with it or let anyone else mess with it.

Funny to see this since I've been having trouble powering my FL-50. How timely!

Also, after almost 5 years with my E-1, I've never sent it for servicing, though I probably should, once I have another body. The service centre in the U.S.A. is not conveniently located to almost anyone, since the country is so big.
