mine was exchanged for an A95 for about $190 a few months back.

I m from Malaysia.

My A70 had a bad CCD in Aug 2005, 20 months old, and out of warranty.

Was quoted RM299 for the repair.

Since found A70 had this CCD problem all over the world, fax a 'polite' letter to canon service center KL Malaysia addressing the issue and asked for FOC repair, plus cc one copy to Canon CEO in Malaysia.
=> got my FOC repair request.

My A70 came back repaired, BUT STILL with identical black LCD problem (seems like never repair), lucky tested immediately on the spot before leaving service center! ! ! This time had a loose connector problem.

Faxed a second 'polite' letter to canon service center KL Malaysia demanding for a upgrade program to new A95 (that has stopped for few months since CCD spare-part is available). Plus fax seperate letter to Canon CEO Malaysia addressing the issues. =>I got the upgrade program to A95 by paying extra RM299.

Now, just pray that the new A95 will last for 2 more years before I upgrade to something else . . .

You must have lost touch of what happened. Canon and other brands have announced free repair for CCD problem for certain models, A70 being one of them. Please do a search of the forum or Canon announcement.

Saw Canon notices last week.
Canon had contact me & advise me to send in for len replacement.
