Poll: Choosing a Wide Angle Lens

eh.. maybe my subject was contradicting.. my apologies if i did not state clearly on whether it is about wide angle prime lens OR wide angle zoom lens..

however anyone can see from my poll from the 6 lenses that all of them are wide angle zoom lens..

hope that clarify something..

What I meant is, you don't want to consider primes? :dunno:

Looking at your poll again, clearly you are only considering the low end lenses, so primes wouldn't be your in your considerations naturally.

Back to the topic, I didn't vote as I like none of the lens you have listed.

I voted for Nikkor 10-24 as I usually take outdoor shots for wide angle. If there's a 10-24 f/2.8, that will be fantastic. Between f/2.8 and longer zoom, I chose the latter.

Back to the topic, I didn't vote as I like none of the lens you have listed.

Which "prime" wide angle lens are you speaking about? Apart from the 8mm and 10.5mm from Nikon, which are both fisheye, the first fixed one is 14mm f/2.8. This may produce sharp pictures, but the 10mm in the 10-24mm is a *MUCH* wider, and the zoom is convenient too. For people who're keenly into wideangle stuff, there is a HUGE difference between 10mm and 14mm. So I'm interested in your thoughts on which lens can match the wideness of the 10-24mm from Nikkor. Thanks.

Tokina lens are reputable for their build and quality.. u won't go too wrong with Tokina + 2.8..

simply because you were the one who started it all by accusing aspenx of asking, quoting you, "stupid question" which is not stupid in the first place because a prime UWA is still a UWA regardless of whether your list consists only of UWA zooms...and so aspenx simply asked "No primes?" which is a very valid and non-disrepectful quetion

how would you like it if someone insinuates that you are stupid even though it was really uncalled for...

in aspenx's case your haughty and immature response was really uncalled for...

are you too proud to admit your mistake and apologise?

oh well never mind your inaction speaks volumes...

anyway back to the thread topic... since Nikkor 10-24mm is not even out yet (so who would know if it can be one's favourite?) so amongst the rest, the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 would seem to be my choice

as for prime UWA lens then it would be the legendary Nikkor 28mm f1.4...

hmm... if given a choice and money is available... probably go for the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and Tokina 12-24mm f4 (new versions)

then i can cover more focal length... haha

but if the new Nikkor 10-24mm to come is any good maybe will consider this as it will cover the range with an extra 1mm to boot!
