Hi true–photographer,
After reading your initial post I thought
This is could be the first time you join a society AGM.?
If not you will not be surprised by the true as, voting is always an emotional event in any society AGM.
Member attend the AGM to vote for their prefer nominees, to listen to the society report, and to question the society spending, accounting etc. From what you describe, obviously they were some members object to the nomination.
May I ask your original purpose of joining the society was to learn or share photography or to see if the society conducts AGM quietly?
Now you decided to leave the society because you feel it has not benefit your photography know how or you are disgusted, not happy with the way the AGM was conducted, or the people you nominated were not elected. Well for a moment I thought for what ever reason it’s your choice and expectation of the society. That is perfectly normal.
But on further reading, I get the impression that you are also playing politics (whether intentionally or not I am not sure) trying to rally support for your guru by revealing here your sympathy for him and you think he has wasted his time in the society. Your open support for his move to start his own school to offer the similar courses as the society. You think he is indispensable; the society cannot move on without him why because the society will not able find teacher to conduct courses and eventually lose membership and revenue? I think you did not done your Guru any good by openly supported him without really understand his real reason. Instead you might have complicated the knot within his society and undone all his contribution to the society. You have just added more water into the frying pan.
This is my 2 cents.
Ok OK, me and my big mouth. Me young auntie big mouth, sori sori.
Nope, this is not my first AGM, but this round is a bit too much for most of us. This is my second AGM. The last round got no election and pretty peaceful.
Of course, during the cofeeshop talk after photo clinic, we can hear something about past elections in the very old days being very very political. Even without him at the coffeeshop talk, gossips were flying with back stabs, not just to him but also to a few others. I was shocked.
We are actually disgusted at the way the AGM was conducted. Perhaps we are not familiar with the constitutions or whatever they call it, we have hardly heard of nominations being closed with positions returned unopposed (as stated on the noticeboard) and reopen again, and lead to all the hoo haa that day. This is no secret as it will be minuted afterall to be sent to members, not sure how many are clubsnappers. Not sure how it will be censored.
Hmmm, this kopitiam gossip is gossip and personal opinion. Yes, yes, we sympathise with him. I tend to be more vocal at times. We have been members since 2005. We saw the rapid progress. It is a pity that it has to end this way. whether or not the Society can continue to gain more membership or make more money, depends on the new team. Need to find a stubborn loyal person to replace him.
Nothing can stop his students being supportive of him, if he is really good. To be fair to him, his services to the Society is recognised by many. To be fair to him, we do not mind keeping our mouth shut to preserve his honour if gossip in kopitiam can be so bad. To be fair to the Society, we also heard over coffeeshop talk about this person right at the top but also a frequent victim of Friday coffeeshop back stabbing. But.... Truth is truth.
Once again, we really hope the AGM never took place that way and we really wish that things were back to normal. But dreams are dreams, reality is reality. "Politics build dreams and yet destroy dreams". This was what my Aussie Prof told me.
