Hey guys,

Does anyone happen to know where can i purchase the OpticFilm 8200i SE/AI locally? Any feedbacks on these scanners?
Thanks!

you may want to give a call to parisilk. Bought one there a while ago and seems they have stock once in a while. Scan Quality is good but it is not good for your back haha as it takes me average 1 hour to scan 1 roll of film. so I just biought a Kodak Pakon 135 for a quick scan and to use on net. if high resolution needed, then i use plustek.

Have been using Plustek for a few years now.
Recently upgraded to the 8200i model, produces great image but processing speed it slow due to individual manual advancing of Negative.

Is plustek better than Epson v700?

Yes. V700 is a good scanner for medium and large format but generally not as good for 35mm. Image looks soft. However much faster as you can scan many frames instead of just one a time like the plustek.

I use my v500 for quick scanning, and scan my favourites with the plustek at high res. it's really ultra slow. Will burn your entire evening just doing a roll and then tweaking the files.

Thanks guys, managed to get a set at the pc show:) loving the quality!

AAA Imanging website. It costs USD250 for the scanner and USD85 for Fedex Priority shipping.

My Pakon just arrived, my wife is going to pick it up right now from Fedex for me!
I'll get to see it when I get home in 5 weeks!
I also plan to use it for quick scan and for use on the net, and keeping the Coolscan V for higher resolution!
so excited!

How do you like it so far? Is it new or used?

i have both plustek 8200ai and v700 epson scan.

for 135mm scans, plustek 8200ai beats v700 hands down except for slide films. plustek performs poorly in this area (i wonder is it because of their LED light or whatnot)

v700 is superb for all slides, and of course it allows you to scan MF/LF.

it really depends on your intended use. if you shoot only 135, plustek 8200ai is superb but if you are going to be versatile with your medium, get a v700.

or best, get both for the coverage.

cheers

I ordered it used from AAAImaging ebay store USD$250 + shipping.
I won't be home until 5 weeks time to try it out :)

Apart from the resolution, the quality is on par. I like the work flows of the Pakon, less than 5 min for a roll :-)

is there any cheaper alternatives ? i know the quality will drop but i am not really a film freak yet.

did some calculation and looks like if when i scanned my 20th roll, the cost ($5-6 to digitize it) would probably get me my own scanner.

there are those cheaper film scanners, manual loading and scan outputs about 2-5 Mega pixels. Never tried them before so no comments on how it will turn out.

Cost should be about 100-250. No idea where its being sold. Can try challenger. (Last time i saw challenger and some local/online camera stores carrying them, no idea about now)

Also, Scanning can be quite tedious work. If you want to get cheap scanner, i think let shop scan for u better. Else, go straight for the V700. I have a plustek (which is manual loading), shoot and dev my own film as a hobby. When it comes to scanning, v. sian to load&scan 1 film by 1 film.

Deciding whether or not to buy a scanner will boil down to tradeoff between price, convenience and quality.

Most commercial scanners deliver on 2 out of the 3 characteristics.

Go for a V600 to balance price and quality if you're cost conscious.

A pakon F135+ is really fast and good if you shoot mainly 35mm. Pictures below have been scanned by a pakon f135+ without any editing. Note that you need Win XP to run the software though.

Note that this is a cheap film Ultramax 400
