Hi, i am looking for a video camera for family usage, budget is 1000, can anyone recommend one for me?

I would like a HD camera, but it seems too expensive per the IT show 2009, heard when the new model come out the price of old model will drop, when will the new model be released?

If you don't mind a NTSC camera, go buy from USA or Japan. A lot cheaper. HD camera well under $1000. Then either tompang a friend, or use some shipping service to bring to SG.

amazon.com, newegg.com, B&H photo, etc. Just make sure you check out resellerratings.com first and take only the reputable ones like the above 3. Although most things here are PAL, TVs here are multisystem so they can play both NTSC & PAL stuff.

If u looking below $1000 HD video Cam.
If don't mind either go USA or HongKong purchases.. I personally using Canon HF10. Result not bad. www.camcorderinfo.com

Maybe you can search online and see the preview before u made assumption

i just got my HF10 from australia, spending everything in include postage, insurance and GST singapore $1100. u may wan to consider getting from there. they are using PAL there just like singapore.

new model in usa will come out in April. not sure in singapore when will be coming.

I am thinking of getting the new Panasonic TM300 from PriceJapan (not release outside Japan yet). All in about S$1500.
But don't know good or not.

Sony, Canon, Sanyo and Panasonic all got new models coming out this or next month.

When you use a HD camcorder, you will need to factor in the need to have good hardware to process the files.

One other option would be the Sanyo Xacti HD2000, it's cheap and good in low light. The only problem with this camcorder is that it uses digital image stabilisation instead of optical stabilisation.

Dude wads the downside for the hd2000 between digital image stabilisation and optical stabilisation?

The cheap-cheap lens is another downside.

do you buy online? i seldom purchase online, is it safe? how long will it take?

I saw the TM300 at ITShow going for 1999.

Go any of the shop and check the price that you feel more comfor with.

I triedthe TM300 and Canon HF 10. Video quality, HF10 is much better. I put both videos on a Sony full HD TV and even my wife can tell the difference. I was tempted to get TM300 as its cheaper and more function, especially the ring focus. In the end, I got HF10 in KL for SGD1650 including a free batt, 16GB card, video bag and a jacket.

Yah sad to hear about the TM300. I just read a pretty awful review about it too. Sigh ... it seems almost perfect, but there is always a catch.

Waiting for the new Canons now. The Xacti HD2000 and FH1 seem nice too, but the catch is EIS.

I just got my HF200 from HK, around s$1200, may i know anyone is using it as well?

How trustworthy are they? Are their price after shipment still cheaper than SG? Is the warranty still valid in SG? Pardon me I am a noobs. Is my 2nd posting and I just joined wanting to take some advise from all the people here. I buying a video cam. Thanks and sorry
